Wiring Help: Extending Pickup wire

I have 2 pickups, a Dimarzio Paf 7 and a dimarzio d sonic that need to have their entire 4 conductor wire extended to reach the wiring cavity. How do I do this properly? On the same note, how do I properly extend 1 wire when it needs to be split off into 2 or more wires for a specific wiring? (such as the black dot near the volume pot in this link http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUHH5L1101). Im worried about getting hum from not shielding correctly.

Thanks

Most guitar wiring is just not that critical. A little unshielded lead probably won't make any difference. There has been a least one thread on this same issue within the last day or two. If not here, check in Electric Guitars. In guitar wiring you generally wouldn't need to do anything for multiple connections other than just wiring from point A, to B, to C, etc.

Mike42 is correct. I recommend getting the same color wires in the same guage. I think it is 24AWG. Twist together, heat shrink when you're done & you should be fine. With your 4 cond. wire; is this 4 wires stuck together like zipcord? If so split them apart & do one at a time. By the time you have them installed, who's gonna know?

or do what I did..use a usb cable..there shielded with 4 wires..I used the one that came with a external usb hard drive..the thicker ones like the ones that you would use that came with a printer might be a bit to thick depending on the guitar and how big they drilled the wire holes..but works fine..even same color that Duncan uses for there pickups...green,red,whire,black..and a ground for shielding..

Good idea on the usb cable. But what about cost? If you have a spare it's great. But, if not, Rat shack wire might be a better/cheaper way to go. I'm a cheap b@$t@%d. Can't help it. Gives me more money for whores & the like. And like I said earlier, who the phuck cares when the guitar is together? Nobody's gonna see nothin'. Do a good job & someone down the line will say, "Not a bad extention job".

Hookers and beer, eh? ;)

Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, and similar places should have a bulk cable area. I've seen shielded CAT5 cable at some. Any time something electronic gets the heave-ho around here, I do a rip n' strip first. Any cables that are functional and good condition get saved. Wires? You betcha. I probably have over 30 USB cables with connectors still on the ends from all the mice I've gone through, as well as from friends. Old computer power supplies get wiring cut off at the board. Screw throwing that stuff in the landfill. If it's not reusable it's recyclable.
