Members steveyoorock
Hey guys, I am looking to build my own pedal board, and I have seen some great home made ones on these forums. I was wondering if anyone can throw me in the right direction for learning how to use power jack chassis mounts and neutrik chassis jacks? I tried googling, but couldn't really find much. Thanks in advance!
Members dahlungril
What do you need to know about them? Cut a hole in whatever you are using as a chassis to the size of the pokethrough of the jack, drill screw holes and use some small self tapping screws to affix the jacks to the chassis. their are 3 wires on a standard IEC chassis mount power connector. Hot, Neutral & Ground, (Black, White, Green generally.) wire those to your receptacles, which i assume you are mounting on the same chassis. a more elegant sollution for power would be to put your own switchmode power supply in to power your pedals though it will be a little more advanced. Do some digging you can find em on the net i'm sure. As far as your patch jacks...it all depends...are you rigging it for stereo opperation w/ effects loops? Are you incorporating some sort of switching unit to turn on and off a bunch of effects? You can make these things as complicated as you want, so map out what your needs are with your current rig, and think, what would you like to be able to do with your board, you dont do presently with your current setup. Members Belva
This is worth the read. I recently tried to get the power jacks from Rat Shack & struck out even though I'd gotten them there before. I went to Small Bear & got some but the Radio Shack jacks are superior quality (strange but true!).Now I got a stinkin' part #.
Members steveyoorock
Wow, thanks for all the input guys! I have a lot to read. Thank you Doctorx! I was looking to put the power jack chassis on the actual pedalboard, not on a pedal. I will read your article however, because I feel as though it will help. Dahlungril, you just got my creative juices flowing! I would love to learn how to incorporate a switching unit to turn off/on effects! Is there a place (website) where I can learn how Neutrik Chassis Jacks / Instrument cables work? Oh, and I have figured out how to install the power jack chassis. Fairly easy. I will look into the switch mode power supply you suggested. Customtele, you should check out www.parts-express.com . I plan to buy a lot of my materials from there. It seems like its where a lot of DIY members on this website get their material from. Thanks again, all of you!
Members Belva
Are you talking about a foot switchable unit? I think that would be overkill. I've thought about putting switches in line on the power supply. One for each jack. But I don't know if that would even be worthwhile. Also I recently discovered the Behringer power supply is one of the best out there. And it works overseas as well. Very quiet. Very compact. Very reliable. Wish I could find a girlfriend like that. And cheap too.
