I have the guitar set up and it sounds good until I put the 3 locking nuts on. When I put them on, the strings just sound kind of muffled. When they are off the guitar sounds razor sharp. Members Matter-Eater Lad Posted March 7, 2010 Members Share Posted March 7, 2010 Those lock pads must mount at a certain orientation. They are curved on the bottom to match the curve (towards tuners) of the nut. Might check that. Look at them sideways. The pads top-side peak or upside-down V shape is not always a giveway. Most have the line of the peak in correct orientation running in parallel with the strings but I have some very old pads which the peak line runs parallel to the frets.
