Members spdolan
Hey guys What kind of paint would you recommend for filling in an engraved LP truss rod cover? I was thinking model paint, bunt not sure if I should go enamel or lacquer. Thoughts? D
Members Belva
I'd be tempted to just get another cover. Probably cheaper in the long run than trying to fill in the one you have. Then there's the resale issue. If you don't phuck up the one you have, no harm, no foul.
Members spdolan
This is a spare I bought and had engraved. My wife gave me the Les for a wedding present, and I named it Bianca. Had that engraved on a spare cover, now im going to fill the engraving with gold to level. Sorry, should have made that clear
Members Mr.Grumpy
I would just use the "Testor's" brand hobby paint that's meant for model cars. It's meant to paint onto plastic, another paint might melt the plastic. Don't try to fill the engraving and make it level with the top, just paint the engraving with gold metallic paint and it should 'pop' nicely. Members Belva
That sounds like a way cool project. Gonna post pics?
Members spdolan
sure, though I dont think it counts as DIY. I had a place in the mall do the engraving on a blank truss rod cover I ordered from Sweetwater. But I love showing off my les, so I'll gladly post some pics once its all done
Members Belva
When you paint the engraving that puts in into the DIY realm. For that i recommend the Testor's brand as well. And a fine brush of good quality. May also be a good idea, if you're a drinkin' man, to do it when you're completely sober.
Members Average_Joe
Keep a cotton rag (t-shirt material) barely damp with thinner to wipe the excess outside the engraved lettering as you go.
