Members Steadfastly
Where would I find a five way switch? Also, are there different styles available and which one would be the best as far as quality goes?
Members mike42
Most any place that sells guitar parts will likely have a 5-way switch. The open frame wafer switches in general are going to be better switches than the plastic-box import switches. However, the wafer switches generally need more vertical clearance than the "box" type switch. I have run into a couple of situations where the body rout wasn't deep enough to replace a "box" type switch with a wafer switch. If your guitar currently has the box type switch you need to check the clearance before you try to replace it with an open frame switch.
Members Belva
http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/SWL51/5-Way-Strat-Guitar-Lever-Switch-USA-CRL-Brand.htmlThese are the best IMO. I've never seen a case where clearance is a problem, but mike42 may be correct. If you can use one like this you're better off. These can be serviced. The import type can't. You can also find wiring instructions to replace one type with the other if you're gonna scrap the elcheapo import type.
Members fatusstratus
I generally agree with the other guys Do you have a specific "switching matrix" you want to do?
Members Steadfastly
I never even thought about going to my guitar shop. I buy so much online now that it is always my first place I look when buying almost anything except groceries. I appreciate the info. The link you supplied looks like the way to go. Members jimmysux
I think I have a spare, new 5 way switch hanging around here, if I can find it I will just mail it to you. If I remember I will get back on here tomorrow and let you know.
Members illwood
Personally, I plan on using a Megaswitch to replace the noisy and sometimes flaky 5-way switch in my Jackson. I like Stewart-MacDonald as a parts supplier. They do offer some budget conscious **cough** (cheap) **cough** parts so be mindful of that. Here is a link to the Strat style Megaswitch from them: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Switches_and_knobs/Megaswitches/Megaswitch_S-Model.html

Members stratotak
Box style doesnt equal inferior to wafer type.I have a 3 way wafer type that feels flimsy. I have a 5 way box type from guitar festish that feels solid. Except for the fact that the 2 common lugs are joined together on the circuit board, which limits some wiring schemes. It's a solid switch.
