Members Droltab Records
Hello everyone. Nice to see a more refined studio forum here! My question revolves around using a Presonus Firepod. I use a Firepod as my main interface to capture audio to my PC. I understand that only inputs 1 & 2 have balanced send and return TRS connectors. My question is this: I wish to use other preamps in the signal path and want to know how I should go about it. Will placing a preamp/strip before the Firepod add my desired colour/transparency for the remaining 6 (or for 1 & 2 as well) or do the Firepods pres just "take over" in either case? I know that the 1/4 TS for 3 - 8 will negate the preamp and become a line but will an XLR do so when connected to a preamp? Any and all advice would be appreciated. I would also love to hear any comments, suggestions or experiences from Firepod users. Thanks
Members jonmatifa
You should just be able to take your external preamp and plug it into the line in on the firepod. In line mode, the firepod still preamplifies the line signal but not as much and especially if you set the gain to 0db. If you don't want any firepod coloration at all, you can get a mic pre with SPDIF out and go through the FP spdif in and record that way (and augmenting the capability of the firepod by 1 or 2 preamps).
