Changing IRQ assignments

Hey everyone

I use my computer with Sonar 5 and am finding that I have little blurbs etc in the audio, when I looked at the device manager it shows my raid PCI card (for digital audio), my UAD-1 DSP PCI card, my AGP Matrox G450 dual video card and my onboard firewire card (which runs my audio controller card FW 1884) all of them share the same IRQ. I have IRQ 5, 7, 11 open and would like to dedicate my PCI cards to them, is there a way to do this. I see on page 2-16 of the manual for the asus A8V Deluxe that INT D would probably be my best choice but it doesn't show my how to change it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Brian

Try moving your PCI cards to different physical slots. Most mobos assign some sharing to specific slots and onboard features, and they usually spell that out in the manual in a really confusing manner... but the info should be in there.

If you're running Win XP, then IRQ sharing isn't the major issue that it was in the past, although some devices share better than others, and some issues still remain. Usually the easiest approach is just physically relocating the cards into different PCI slots.

Thanks Phil, I figured as much about moving the cards. I just have the flu and am so baffed I don't even want to bend over!

As for it not being the problem, it's just that all 4 of those components are directly related to audio, well and the G450.

I'll keep you updated, maybe after some soup and meds I'll get up enough ummphh to open her up.

Oh, one more thing - I used to use a Matrox G550 vid card a while back, but I ran into issues with it when using a nForce2 chipset board. You're running a VIA chipset board, so that's probably not an issue, but I'd at least make sure I had the latest video card drivers installed first (actually, the latest drivers for everything might not be a bad idea ;) ) and if problems still continue, maybe try a different video card. ATI Radeons have been the least problematic in my experience, and have great compatibility.

Yep everything is the latest Bios, yadada..

Well I switched the Uad-1 Card and the Raid Card into different PCI slots and they are on separate IRQ's now, Thanks Phil..

However the Matrox and the firewire controller are still share the same IRQ # 16... It says in the manual that there are 4 INT settings, A, B, C or D. INT A makes the AGP slot and the Onboard Firewire share IRQ's . If I could figure out how to get it to INT B I'd have everything Audio related on their own IRQ.

Does anyone know where on the Mobo or Bios you can change (Pg 2-16 of the A8 series manual) INT's???

I left an email on the Asus forum too!

Weird, looking at the mobo and the schematic, I don't see it anywhere, or through the bios...

Thanks for anything else.
