Too Many Stickies! - POLL

Phil, I know you love the sticky thing, especially since you couldn't do it before at EQMag, but some of us are only running 1024 x 768 and all we see are stickies and ads until we scroll down. I can't tell at a glance whether there are any new posts.

Too full.

Of course this post is half jest and it's trivial, but it would be nice to be able to see what's going on without touching my mouse...

The November and December editorials have long run their course, although in my own defense, they both had activity on them long after their respective months... but you're right - they've been unstickied. I'll wrap up the Rogue review with some final conclusion points and pics and then unsticky that RSN too.

A few of the others should probably stay - the swap meet, the "welcome" thread, etc. But point taken - I'll try to cut back a bit. :o

BTW Matt, you're banned. :mad::wave:;):p:D

PS My web machine is running a 15" 1024 X 768 monitor. :)

I sincerely enjoy that this post is a sticky!

I'd like to echo the post above about this forum being well moderated - thumbs up, Phil!

It's a bit better with those last year's stickies down already.

Thank you for a great forum, and I hope this post didn't go where it wasn't intended.

Yeah, I think it's best to somewhat limit the number of stickies. I definitely agree that the "welcome" message and "for sale" thread should stay stickied (although I'm still dumbfounded by the lack of activity on the spam thread here - for example, some of the guitar forums get TONS of spam content daily, and recording geeks are notoriously huge gear whores! ;) ).

I also think that one "Pro Review" stickied at a time is probably enough. It'd be great, though, if you could maybe start each new pro review with links to all the old ones, or maybe include links in the welcome message. Just some way to keep the old ones from getting lost in the ether.

Anyway, stickies are certainly not the most pressing problem in the world, but keeping them on a bit of a leash would make for a tidier forum, IMO.

EDIT>>>and I also LOVE the irony of this thread getting stickied! :D

I think Craig found that there's a relationship between too many stickies and people posting less.

I too echo the sentiment that this forum is well moderated. :thu:

I'm not a big fan of stickies though. Just my .02, but I prefer to "trust the marketplace" in terms of which threads live and die. The non-sticky area tends to be where I'm interested in reading and posting for the most part and I find a swath of stickies like a log in the road you have to kind of jump over to get to where the action is.

yeah alot of sticky's can be annoying but...

how bout keeping the welcome sticky, and a review or two up.

might also be worth have a sticky thread of threads. ya know have links to a bunch of other good threads and a brief explanation of them all in one thread. so the info is still easily available but it doesn't take up half the screen. just an idea, i think another forum did something like that.

Brother Dave (dB or Dave Bryce for the unwashed / unhip ;) ) has taken that approach in the past - a FAQ / "where to find it" thread... and I think the idea has a lot of merit. :thu:

Of course, I appreciate everyone's input and comments on this. Matt, thanks for being a good sport about me putting this up as a sticky - the irony was just too good to pass up. :D And no worries - you can always feel free to voice your thoughts about the forum. :)

BL's comments were also good - I think TOO many stickies is generally not a great idea, and I do appreciate a "market driven" aspect to what threads are popular and what ones sink a bit quicker... OTOH, I think I prefer the description of "member driven". :) But I agree that a lot of times, a lot of the action occurs in the non-stickied threads. But a general welcome / FAQ / directory / rules thread (I think all in one thread should be do-able - thoughts?), spam thread, and the active Pro Reviews, and for the time being, the IYRAG?FOH! should stay stickied... and since it's my name on the top of the page, I get to make the rules. File that one under "rank hath its privileges". :p;):o

But I do appreciate everyone's input, because this is your forum too. And so feel free to make suggestions and speak up if there's something you think would be cool or if there's something you don't like. I appreciate all of your kind words about how I moderate, but really, at the end of the day, you folks decide what you want and what you don't want, carry on the discussions and help each other, and in doing so, you make this the great forum that it is. If I may be so bold as to call it such. :o

Thanks again.
