Guest Anonymous
Thinking of selling my hardware fx units, want the whole recording process to be software. I already use software for synths and guitars, but can it be done for fx? I need pro quality song production fx in software, something close to the sound of my Eventides and Lex's. Which do you consider the highest quality fx plugs? I don't want or use software for "pro tools only" and things like that, i prefer Direct X for use in all hosts. I already have the latest Sound Forge and Ozone. I'm interested in stand alone software for Reverb and delay. Any recommendations?
Members where02190
While the software effects are good, I've yet to hear a software dynamic that compared to the real thing.
Phil O'Keefe
I really couldn't tell you what is hip in DX plug-inland; I'm almost exclusively using VST and RTAS stuff... but hopefully you'll get some good suggestions from other folks both here and on Craig's forum. FWIW, I have no problems incorporating both plug-in technology and hardware units, and at some point this year, I'll probably be picking up at least one more hardware outboard effects unit to add to what I already have. I can understand why some people might want to use one or the other exclusively, but IMO, it's a case of whatever works - and I have no problems with using hardware or software if it gets me where I want to go. Members gtrbass
I've used the Waves trueverb and 2-Tap delay with very impressive results. Two others I really like are the Wavearts Masterverb, and the PSP 84.
Phil O'Keefe
I like Waves Trueverb and the Supertap delay too. IMO, Trueverb is better for smaller space / ambience type things than it is for larger room simulations though.
Members Kiwiburger
I am normally a staunch Behringer basher - but I have to say their latest hardware reverb is dirt cheap (cheaper than some software) and surprisingly good. I have a Kurzweil Rumour, and i'm tempted to get a Behringer or two because they are sweeter and more Lexicon-ish. I know people knock the build quality of Behinringer - but basically everything is built in China now. I have Mackie and Kurzweil gear that has failures and defects - so paying 2 or 3 times the price for a brand name doesn't always pay off. Main reservations are:Converters are not stunning - you would want to use digital i/o.The digital i/o is optical s/pidf or AES/EBU - no coaxial s/pdif. Also - the preset programmer went crazy with the Random modulation setting. Random reverb sounds really stupid - it's like the tails have this stepping quality that is just wierd in a bad way. Set to Linear modulation and you get a normal triangle wave modulation. With hardware this cheap, and this good, it makes some of the iLocked software verbs look like an utter ripoff. But for convenience i'm still looking for truely great plugin verbs. I might be forced to get over my hatred for iLock and look at CSR.
Phil O'Keefe
Kiwi, have you tried any of the software convolution reverbs yet?
