female vocal chorus

sorry, ill elaborate.

theres a certain sound to female pop vocals that makes them sound really big, glossy, almost ethereal. a bad example would be nelly furtado in a timbaland produced song, or beyonce or some crap like that. in any event, i know their voices didnt come out of their mouths like that.

i have a good basic signal chain (mic, preamp, a/d) but how do you achieve that gloss? is it multi layering? ive tried this, but i still want it to sound like one voice. is it processing of some kind? can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm a little confused here. You want a sound like a female chorus, but you want it to sound like one voice?

If you're talking about one voice, then you're usually talking about a combination of the vocalist's qualities, a very nice mic with a beautiful, open high end, and a really great signal chain, and then jacking the high end slightly with EQ or various other things (some people use Aural Exciters or BBEs).

If you're talking about choruses, then it's several passes, layering the vocals to produce that beautiful top-end shimmer.
