I track via a mixer to an ADAT which is connected via lightpipe and serial to an old Win98 PC (Alesis never updated their ADATConnect software to XP). The Win98 PC is networked to my main XP PC and I use Tracktion for mixing. I don't do a whole lot of recording but have a sizable voice-over project coming up. Here's what I'd like to do...I'd like to replace the ADAT deck with a Fostex D-108 external HD recorder that I happen to have and bypass the Win 98 machine. The Fostex deck has 8 analog ins & outs for the mixer, midi in, out & through, and lightpipe ins & outs. Has anyone worked with these before? If so, can anyone recommend an interface to my XP PC? Phil O'Keefe Posted July 29, 2008 Share Posted July 29, 2008 Frontier Design makes an excellent "lightpipe" PCI card called the Wavecenter that is perfect for transferring tracks from an ADAT deck, or any other 8 channel lightpipe device for that matter. In addition to the lightpipe I/O, it also has a MIDI interface on it too... and last I checked, they were under $300, and yes, they do have excellent XP drivers. As a former ADAT Connect owner, and a current Wavecenter owner, I can tell you that the Frontier Designs product is light years ahead of the old Alesis product insofar as reliability. If you need more than 8 channels of ADAT lightpipe I/O for your computer, they also make the Dakota and Montana cards, and when used together, they can give you up to 32 channels - IOW 4 lightpipe I/O's simultaneously, along with extensive sync MIDI capabilities.
