Members animalion
Hey guys! I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I've been bustin' my brain trying to figure out which large diaphram condenser microphone to purchase. It will be used for mainly for female vocalists and sometimes male vocalists. I'm looking for a sliky smooth, warm, clear sound. The two Microphones I'm looking at are the ADK Hamburg Mk 8 and the Nuemann TLM103. I've heard great things about the ADK Hamburg plus it's cheaper but I haven't been able to use it myself. I've used the TLM103 for the past 3 or 4 years and it sounds great but is almost twice the price of the Hamburg (if not more). Keep in mind i'll be using a Universal Audio Solo 610 Mic Pre. Please let me know your thoughts and ultimately what may be the better mic.
Phil O'Keefe
Welcome to the Trenches. I'm not a huge TLM103 fan... it's not bad per se, but there are things in that price class that I like better, such as the Soundelux U195 / Bock Audio 195 (same mic, just different company name / ownership). Smokes the Neumann IMHO. As far as the new version of the ADK Hamburgs, I have not heard them yet. The other ADK's I've heard in the past were pretty nice though... but I can't give you a useful answer on the new versions without hearing one first. Members UstadKhanAli
I've not really used either. A lot of engineers I know think that the TLM 103 is really dark. However, I've heard that, perhaps because of this quality, it makes a good room mic for drums. Not familiar with the ADK.
