Members Lucky #9
Just won a Mackie 1220 Onyx mixer on ebay for my long-planned, but yet-to-be-set-up home studio. I've been buying mics, processors, etc., for a couple of years now and if I don't get started recording soon I'm going to kick my own ass. Though used, picked it up for $276 (plus shipping/insurance of $19.90) which is a very good price from a 100% feedback ebayer. I've got over 300 ebay wins/buys so I think I've developed a fairly good eye for sellers and gear (knock-on-wood), so I expect it to be a quality, in-shape item. Just curious as to whether any of you guys are using an Onyx mixer in your studio and any general comments you may want to make as to your satisfaction (or not) with the Onyx line. Thanks for your time!
Members Lee Flier
Wow, that IS a great deal. I don't have an Onyx mixer in my studio, but I'm kinda jonesing for one now, because I have an Onyx Satellite and the pre's in it are GREAT! VERY quiet and loads of gain. So I'd love to have some more of those puppies. Let us know how it works out for ya! I may try to pick up a 1620 on eBay myself.

I was looking at a 1620 (with the firewire card) for a time myself but the price shot up towards the end of the auction. I spend a lot of time on ebay hovering for good deals and patience often rewards me with very good pricing. If you catch an item at just the right time you can make a good score. Sometimes you really have to lurk for a while but eventually the stars align correctly and bang! About a month ago a 1220 with the firewire card went for $400. An absoulute steal. I should have grabbed that one but was unsure at the time as to whether I "needed" the item. Those firewire cards are way too expensive. I think Mackie priced them too high and missed the boat on that one.
