I was bypassing the usual channels and noticed a commercial for this show. I do not know what to make of this. Is he being used, or has his career tanked so bad that even doing Pam he can't get enough publicity for his mediocre 'talent'.

Call me ignorant, but i really want to think that tommy lee isn't as much of an idiot as people try to make him out to be. He seems to be kinda dopey, yeah, but i think that behind all that he's an intelligent and super-nice guy, if not a little misguided and undisciplined.

The other important thing is that in every appearance i've ever seen of him he seems like he's always 100% for real. You never see any act from him, it's just the "big kid" that is tommy lee. He talks honestly about the scuffles in his past and i think his heart is in the right place.

That said, i think that anyone that is in any of these 'reality shows' is being used, either willingly or not.

Hmmm

I have NEVER thought Pam Anderson was attractive. Too plastic. Although she acted all tweaked out, I thought Courtney Love LOOKED better..more natural..Would not touch either though for fear of exhausting my medical insurance.

Tommy, what the hell? He is like Ozzy 20 years younger, without the shaking and pills. I do know that the song he played on the PA Roast was lame as hell. He needs to join KISS or something. He still has value as a drummer, just needs to find a new niche. I always thought Motley Crue was sort fo a joke band, but I was pretty much a Van Halen/Rush/KISS fan. I saw Crue as a lame KISS rip off. Tommy is not even in the same league as AVH/NP, or even the legendary, albeit not technical, Peter Criss in terms of rock cred or star power.

Did you see the new guy PA is dating? He looks like Tommy run through a yuppy machine...it was WEIRD.

In the circles these people travel in it must be considered 'uncool' not to have a primetime TV show about your life. I mean, Ozzy, Hulk Hogan, That Hilton girl -though God only knows why, Liza Minnelli and her husband Mister Whatshisname, that slothful former Guess Jeans chick....and all the rest

What gives with these people?.

I'd bet anything that David Lee Roth has *at least* been receiving offers to have a film crew trail him around while he does his EMT thing.

I did get a kick out of the first season of Ozzie's show. But after a while you start getting the impression that these people just want the attention a little too much. Such vanity.

I'll disagree with that. I'm not a Crue fan, but Tommy Lee is a very capable drummer. I'd put him up against Alex any day of the week.

As far as star power goes, he was the drummer.....THE DRUMMER.....of Motley Crue, and he is easily more recognizable than anyone else in the band.....moreso even than the singer. That's pretty rare.

Yep, Tommy blows AVH away... not even close.

If you've seen both bands live, (I have, at all different stages of both bands' careers) you'll know that Tommy is a killer rock drummer in the studio and especially live, whereas Alex sucks live...always has.

I liked VH better as a band, but drummer vs. drummer, Alex can't hold a candle to Tommy Lee.

Well, the show pretty much sucked, but in this post modern new paradigm music business era we are now in it is a smart move.

Lets face it. It is almost impossibe for all but a handful of carefully marketed people to get regular play on the radio or MTV/VH-1. It is very difficult to get any realy music media exposure these days. Tommy Lee's band is musically pretty good but he can't sing, and the material is lame. He gets his own reality show and a whole new generation of kids do google searches and they find the Tommy Lee/Pamela video and voila'- he has a whole new fan base. Dyland does Starbucks, Tommy does reality TV.

It's the Paris Hilton business model.

I guess and artist has to do what they have to do these days.

Well hate to burst your bubble, but I ran into that guy in L.A. on several occasions and he's NOT a nice guy nor very intelligent. Especially not a nice guy, and especially not toward women. In fact I'd say he's a borderline sociopath who tries to make light of it with his "I'm just a big dopey dude" act. It makes him seem a lot more human than he really is.

I haven't seen him in forever and it's possible he's different now than he was, but probably not much different.

I've met him 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years and he's always been very nice. Down to earth and a regular dude. That's been my experience anyway.

Actually, the same goes for Nikki Sixx. I've also met and worked in the studio a couple times and again, down to earth and a regular dude.

Lee, I don't doubt your negative experience, just saying mine was different.

Well let's just say that I wasn't at all surprised when he ended up getting busted for domestic violence, and the only thing that surprised me was that it didn't happen a lot sooner and a lot more often.

And let's just say that I'm skeptical that people who frequently beat up women ever just get over it.

(EDIT: and in case this gets anybody wondering, NO I haven't personally been one of his "victims." I've never been dumb enough to date somebody like him! :D)

I read Tommy Lee's essay in Rolling Stone about his time in prison after he got busted for domestic violence. It sounded like his time in prison really humbled him. Maybe people can change. I don't know. I sure hope so!

I have a couple who live next door to me who've had a history of domestic violence (I had another thread about that; I might bring that one back to life). I've seen the couple back together again the past couple weeks acting like a happy couple. Maybe the cycle of violence will eventually start up again, maybe it's all behind them. I don't know if he has physicaly abused her and caused harm to her body. I've never seen her with bruises or other injuries. But in the past he has slashed her tires and broken into her apartment.

John Lennon wrote the lyrics "I used to get mad at my woman and beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved" because he really was the abuser in an abusive relationship when he was a very young man. And he wrote the song about how he was able to change and get better.

I'm really not an expert on this. How often people are able to change; how likely someone really has changed; I really don't know.
