Members Ryst
I need some help. I want to live in a place that is cheap, quiet, and away from the rest of the world. I don't care about making millions and millions of dollars. I also don't think you need millions and millions of dollars in order to retire comfortably. I think it depends on your lifestyle. So what I want to know is, do you guys know of any places in the world that are cheap to live? For instance, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I love it down there. It's very cheap to live, great food, a georgous beach. My kind of place. I want to know of other places similar to this.

Solitary confinement is a good idea if I never care to see the sun again.:D:D However, I do so I am not sure that will work. Although the thought of never having to cook another meal again is very tempting. :D
Members UstadKhanAli
Essaouira is a beautiful, attractive place. And cheap. Quito, Ecuador. Ghana. You can live by beautiful white sand beaches with palm trees for next to nothing. India. See comments for Ghana. Thailand.

Went to that gorgeous beach, which was covered in many places with those plastic 1 quart oil containers. I guess they use a lot of them down there and they have little or no recycling other than dumping them into the ocean. May be cheap to live but at a high cost. I liked the Bahama islands better. Cheap to live outside the tourist areas, civilized, clean beaches, English is native language, freindly people.

Yep, Zirio is OK, but check out the ristorante/pizzeria "Il Foro", at the very beginning of Porto Santo Stefano, under the main downhill that brings to town. Excellent frutti di mare antipasti. Members Geoff Grace
Ryst, my brother and sister spent a summer in Antigua Guatemala seventeen years ago and they loved it! The people they got to know there were kind and friendly and the cost was very inexpensive. Antigua left such a good impression on them that they talked about the place frequently for several years after they returned. Best, Geoff

Members UstadKhanAli
OT: RussRags, I thought I read somewhere that you owned Topanga Skyline Studios. I think I recorded there a very long time ago, maybe in the late '80s. What a beautiful setting and studio! So gorgeous! I remember thinking, "Sheeesh, I wish I could buy this place someday!" But anyway, congratulations on owning such a wonderful studio! ~~~~~~~~~~~ Back ON TOPIC:Another place that seems popular with American ex-pats is Panama. For the last 3 years I have lived in Atlanta, GA. I don't mind the heat at all. In Playa Del Carmen and in Cozumel, the rent is very cheap but most places don't have air conditioning. That's fine with me. Tons of ice cold bottled water and a beach will keep me more than happy. There are a few places on the other side of the island (away from the tourist spots) of Cozumel that are so quiet. I could live there forever. But I know there are other places like that around the world so I want to make a list, visit them all, and then decide. :D
