Members Anderton
I'd say replace it, based on my last experience with a flaky DVD writer. Did it always have a problem, or did the problem just develop recently?

Members Spencer Crewe
If it is conituing to open and close, that may mean that the sensor that detects whether or not a disc is present and properly seated. I recently had to perform surgery on a real-time stand alone DVD burner because this was what it was doing. Not that I did much: I basically removed the case and poked and prodded at a couple of things randomly. Seems to be working fine as a result of my highly specific repairs. Cheers! Members Dylan Walters
It sounds like you have a bad drive. I'd take it back and it exchange it for something else. Stay away from Emperex brand drives. Lite-On and Plextor are my favorite.

Spencer Don't do this unless the drive is out of warranty. FFS, contact the manufacturer if it is an OEM drive or contact the store if you bought it from a retail store. Get an RMA# and send it back. Done.
Members rim
Does it open and close only when there's a blank disc in it? It's possible you got a batch of bad media. If you can, check the same media on another drive. If it does it even when there's no media or media you know is good, then chances are the drive is bad. Unless your keyboard has an eject button and it's somehow stuck pressed in or malfunctioning. If you have another keyboard lying around, it may be worth trying that out. If it was the KB most BIOS would recognize the stuck key on boot. So try to reboot and see if you get an error. Then rule out the stuck key. Members boosh
I tried everything in the book but the drive is just plain weird. It keeps opening and closing so I tried it in a neighbours PC and it had the same problem. I returned it to the shop today and they took it back without any questions. The drive was out of stock but I get a new one by mail in 2 days,..straight from the company..... A Dutch company( I won't name it) maybe that's why they give great service Thankzz for the suggestions ppl.

Members AudioMaverick
Well, it is a little late for this.... I bought a DVD writer that came with white & black exchangable fronts (to match whichever case color you have). I swapped them and didn't get the bezel fully snapped into place in the top-middle. The door would close but not fully seat. So, it would open back up. For some future situation, if anyone else has the same issue...
Members rabblerabble
Lol, yeah i guess it is a good suggestion to check the drives clearance for the tower when coming in for landing.

It's just my nature to try everything softwarewise before hardware. But the hardware part is more fun when you locate and fix the prob. I figured his drive was somewhat new....
