question for video editors/animators

Okay ,..so we're working on a video which is going to be fully animated.

My question:

If we use a frame rate of 25/sec and a beat ,... let's say 120bpm.

Where do you put the keyframes in animation,..in other words.

which frames do exactly fit on the beat? Is there a calculation for that and would for example 100bpm be easier to animate? or 150?

Angelo?? Maybe your Disney friends can help me out here.....

PAL has a frame rate of 25 per second (25 fps). A PAL frame is theoretically 40ms.

For example: If you wanna hard sync video frames with musical /16 notes, then the tempo you can do that frame accurate is ??? (--->you really want to know it?)

I wouldn't do it. Why? Because when the picture is in accurate sync with the music, some people have a epileptical seizure.

So you suggest? We have this animation character and we want to make her dance so she has to be in sync...

Funny,....the working title of the song is Spasms,...now wouldn't that cause a seizure? ;)

Over here in North America ,20.97 and 30 fps are common.

Rather than trying to fit the music to the pictures, I would rather fit the pictures to the music.

I work with MediaStudio Pro. I can visually SEE the sound waves. The sharp transients of the 2 and 4 of the snare drum are easy to see in my mixes. Then I count the frames between them. Since I record with a click, usually they are solid and consistent. Other major audio events are also easy to SEE , such as cymbal crashes etc. Keep in mind though that I have been editing wave files for 10 years now.

Then drag and drop the clips at beginning of each major "event"

I did some interesting time synced editing with the "Plastic World" Notice how the animated Chromakey "balloons" open on the beat.

TechCris The way you do it is the way I do it also ,...I even did that ages ago when I still used Cells to draw and picture each frame on.

I just wondered if there's a calculation that can be used to place keyframes.

We're not fitting the music to the video by the way... The music is allready there ;) well,....... we're in the middle of recording.

I've watched your videos many times ;) The stuff reminds me of the Talkin Headz,.... very cool!

The style we use is more like the Disney/Pixar stuff,... very realistic images mixed with live action and surrealizm

We did a render test of a little animation this week.

The animation is not tweaked and there are many faults in it but you get the general idea of what the video would look like.

It's at : animation

You need a divx codec installed to play it,.. dunno if you have that but you can get it at www.divx.com

Deadline is set at 8 months,.... it takes ages to render and animate ;)
