Cell phone for aging hard-of-hearing musicians?

I'm fed up with my cell phone. I bought a top of the line Motorola two years ago and it has one major fault, auto volume leveling. In perfect conditions I can barely hear. Most of the time it is hopeless. The phone has camera, web browsing, games, etc... but no volume control for the speaker other than ring volume. You can see the level, (always 7 out of 10) but there is no option to set it. I thought this was crazy but a friend tells me that it is a growing problem. Some cell phones only use auto leveling and customers that are hard of hearing are having problems with these phones. Count me in.

So, do any musicians who have reached that stage in life have a recommendation on a cell phone? The provider with best coverage in my area is Cingular and I have been with them for over 6 years but I could possibly change to Nextel. Alltel is not available in my area. So, I need a Cingular phone with good volume.

I used to have this great phone from Nextel several years ago that had an extremely loud ear-speaker...it was great, i could actually check my voicemail on the side of the stage while i was mixing monitors.

When I switched to Tmobile a few years back (new employer) the new phone I got sucks...it must have that auto leveling thing, because I can't hear for sh*t unless I'm i n a perfectly quiet room, with the phone held just right...It's almost useless in the car. And my wife has a very low voice so she's almost impossible to hear.

I'm looking at getting the new Treo 700. Anyone know if they have a volume issue?

I considered the Treo 700 but it seems that Cingular does not offer it. They have the 650 and the iPaq hw5615. Neither got really good ratings on sites I visited. It would be nice to have PDA and MP3 abilities. I do hate to get something that big.

I see that two new Treo's are coming out in September or October. I also wonder if they have good volume.
