Members iudas
Hello ladies and gentlemen. Fine board you've got here. I'm a novice singer and I'd like to hear your advice. I'd appreciate if you commented on my unimpressive recordings. I'm 16, so my voice is not very mature yet, and I'm not a native English speaker either, so the lyrics might sound awkward at times, though I try my best to fake it. Currently I'm going through a Bob Dylan fanboy phase, and most of my covers will be of his songs. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1028815 Thank you. Members OldMattB
You should have no worries! Get out there and start singing for people. Room for improvement? Sure. But you are way ahead of a lot of performers I have seen. To me, the biggest thing lacking seems to be confidence - take a big breath, a big leap of faith, and while you sing, think like as rock god! oldMattB You will likely get more comments - everyone around here sleeps late on weekends... Members Jersey Jack
Nice! I like Bob, and you do a fine job with the songs. One suggestion I have is to bring your songs up a bit--you're down toward the bass end of your range, and you may find some more stability in your voice if you bump the key up a whole tone or so. In Mr Tambourine Man you do sing (it seems) a little higher, and the vocal performance improves. Your voice has a nice, relaxed quality to it that bodes well. If you do decide to take lessons or work on the formal aspects of voice, try not to lose that relaxed feel. Finally, if you like Bob you might want to check out this guy named Joe Pug. He is among the best "new Dylans" I've ever heard, and he's fairly young (in his 20s, perhaps). He has a solid new album just out, but his first EP, Nation of Heat, is just incredible. Members YeahDoIt
Pretty good overall. I think you sing in key but your voice is weak, kind of sleepy. You might develop a more expressive voice by singing from the diaphragm and doing breathing type exercises and work. I think singing outside helps me, there is something about being indoors that limits my volume and expression. You sing on key and have a nice voice. I think you are better than 95 % of the people that I hear singing. I encourage you to keep at it, sing with all the musicians that you can find and at every opportunity. I Like your versions of "Girl From The North Country" and "Mr. Tambourine Man". Is that you playing blues guitar on "When You Got a Good Friend?" Sounds nice Nice vocals here too. Members iudas
Thanks for the replies. I know expressiveness is a major problem, it usually improves when I play with other people (doesn't happen often enough). I try to sing progressively higher, though my upper range is closed (probably because of puberty not being finished). And yes, that's me playing everything. Don't insert excuses when you're about to post a clip about yourself. Some may not have said anything until you, outed yourself! Plus, if you say all of that up front, what's there left to discover? I've done this myself and when you cover all the bases (instead of letting your audience ask) well...you know. Onto the music. You need to stop doing whatever it is you're doing to inhibit your vocals from being so low. I don't hear a loud and pronounced voice. I can almost hear your computer match your voice in volume. Keep practicing. Get some confidence. Sing songs with vocal difficulty. You play guitar extremely well so for performing, you have 1/2 already down. Members konaboy
i thought your performance was great. I would enjoy listening to that anytime on my mp3 player. you seem to have no difficulty accompanying yourself on the guitar, very tight. very noisy recordings though, you owe it to yourself to get some better recording equipment! Members iudas
Sup. I added 4 more recordings for now, a new Tambourine Man take, Man In Me, If Not For You, and That's Alright Mama (Elvis impression). I'd appreciate if everyone commented. I took into account all the criticism, of course.
