Members Jotown
There is a thread in the political forum but I wanted to tell someone else. I saw Beck in Detroit tonight. I had two front row seats in the orchestra pit. The show was amazing. Beck is definitely the Man. He used one guitar (a cream colored strat that had some kind of custom bridge nut.) He just blew me away. He had three Marshalls and three Fender amps and he used only a compressor pedal and some kind of delay. He had a Whino wah pedal that he only used for a few moments and maybe a univibe type of pedal that he only used twice. He also had an amp switcher pedal. He plays with his fingers but there is one song (a real fast picking thing) where he used a pick and He threw it on the ground after the song. When the show was over I leaned onto the stage and used my jacket to pull the pick closer and I got it for my daughter who was with me; a Herco nylon gold pick! Great show, great moment. Seen him in Darien Lake Perf Arts Center near Rochester about 6 years ago, opening for Santana, Terry Bozzio on drums. Killer show!!
Members Kendrix
Im jealous. This is a really limited "tour" that I didnt get to catch. I last saw him about 3 years ago in NYC's Roseland. As far a guitar playing goes - it doenst get any more amazing than that. His tone and technique are unequaled IMHO. However, he's not always as melodic/musical as I'd like. When he is the music really soars.
Members arellspencer
Thanks for shareing that story aboot JB. I can't see him live ever prolly but for a minute i was there with ya. Draggin that pick ovre was too cool . way to do it !!!You need to keep the pick cause you appreciate it way more than she ever could. to her it's just a pick . I got a pick from them guys that do that song it goes:YOUR MAMAS ALRIGHT YOUR DADDYS ALRIGHT THEY JUST SEEM A LITTLE ,something something.?? you know cheap something tricky dudes. anyhoo it has his face and I use it for inspiration. No i mean I really USE IT. I don't string scrape, it just flat pick with it. i tried to hang it on my glory wall(room) but to all the folkes what don't play or know who them cheap dudes are it was just a little piece of plakik a'hangin' almost invisibly on my wall. I get much more satisfaction(dere, dere, dere) from useing the pick as the cheap dude did. he used it too. I am careful as to where it's a'settin' . I keep up with that one. you know why...the end/

My daughter has been my biggest musical influence the last ten years or so. She has taught me so much about just getting back to the music. Members eightyeightkeys
I saw Jeff Beck a while back - Massey Hall in T.O. I didn't exactly know what to expect from his live performance, but, I was truly mezmerized. I'm not a guitar player either. His performance, together with the band, was extremely dynamic and it sucked me in as if I was hypnotized. No flash, no frills and no bull{censored}. A charismatic performer and a master of his instrument. I loved it.

Members Rabid
I would love to see him live and have most everything he has released. When he goes "off" it is not about runs and speed. He does things to a guitar that you can only do if you are really connected to the instrument. Members Dylan Walters
JB is the best! I saw him in Portland, OR a few years ago and it knocked my socks off. Even though Jeff has some serious chops and knows how to wail, he does it with sytle and class. I could watch JB all night, where guys like Vai and Satch get old after about 30 minutes even though they are amazing players.

I took my daughter to see G3 three years ago with Satch, Vai, and Petrucci. It was cool and they all played well. They all played faster and had a lot of great technique, but I was truly bored to death half way through Vai's set and only stayed halfway through Satriani's set. Don't get me wrong; they are all amazing guitar players with more chops than me. But Beck is just astounding. He has such taste and timing and an ability to evoke emotions rather than just awe at technique. He also has a melodic sensibility that I just have rarely heard on Guitar. Richard Thompson, Mark Knolfer and Derek Trucks come to mind; but Beck is the King. I am still buzzing three days later.

And it looked like some kind of roller nut. But he used the tremolo bar all the time and he only adjusted his tuning once; and he did that while he was playing. His guitar tech was standing by with another strat but he didn't use it.

Members Magpel
One of the few "monster rock" guitarists of any interest to me personally whatsoever. (Steve Morse would be another, but mostly as a writer. And Holdsworth for the sheerest alien wow factor) Damn, though, Beck has such a crystalline voice. He ain't the chopsiest (though the chops he has are fine in the original sense of that word) but who needs chops when you got music, ya know? Members offramp
Jotown, I saw him at the Convention Center Lecture Hall, a 5K seat theatre in downtown Denver. I didn't have the best seat--in fact, only because three people to my right moved to other seats to get a better view, did I finally get to see that it was Colaiuta on drums--but I got to see well enough. JB tends to favor to his left, and I was sitting on his right, so I got a lot of his shoulder, but I saw a few good licks.
