What are your dreams when it boils down to what you do with music?

I have allways dreamt huge. I have a vivid imagination.

When I was I tried to sing like Elvis. To me he was God. I listened to his Gospel Albums over and over and tried to copy every note.

When I got my first Atari home-computer it had a program come with it that I used to create beats and compose stuff. I was 11 years old at that time. Thriller came out and hiphop started become a huge thing.

The only dream that's left over from my childhood is to create and produce music that will be heard by millions. I'd love to lay down tracks that will show up on albums recorded by J-Lo,Britney,Nelly Furtado or other names that big.

The New Timbaland,... that would be cool.

For now I settle with producing stuff that will go into oblivian but it gives me so much fun and joy to be able to record and produce {censored} that mostly only gets heared by good friends that I totally happy with that.

What are your dreams as big or unlikely as they may seem?

I'm kindof on a personal mission to get songs I've written, recorded like I hear them in my head. I'm primarily a rock guitar player and I have a good drummer and bass player I work with but it's limiting. I listen and love alot of different music so it's tough when I come up with a tune and i'm limited by instruments and recording technology. Like if I write a tune and in my head I hear a hammond keyboard passage, I can't do it unless I hunt down a keyboard player to do it properly. The technology is out there and has been for a while but alass, i'm just a guy with a day job so my budget for high end gear is non-existant. I use a pretty cool stand alone DAW but it would be great to have a full blown studio and the knowledge to run it, or a guy to run it. Another big limitation is vocals. Even though i'm a guitar player I realize that the general public wants to hear singing. I'm a huge fan of vocals and thats limiting because i'm more of a hendrix type singer. Sure they fit the songs but when I write melodies I compensate for my lack of ability.

But to the question, i'm on a mission to show , first, myself, and second, all the people in my life, that I can and do write/ record good, viable music and my musical ability goes beyond playing "Rock and Roll all Night and Party Every day" to bar crowds!!

My dreams are actually 2 fold:

From a professional standpoint, to hear one of my songs on commercial radio one time. That would be enough for me to fullfill my professional goals.

From an artistic standpoint, to effectivly paint a perspective so vivid and powerful that it can alter someone's existence in a positive way.

To continue getting better at playing guitar, bass, drums, singing, recording, and mixing, for as long as I live.

I'm not particularly concerned with who hears my music, because I don't have the energy to worry about that. I have faith that if I keep my nose to the grindstone, the rest of it will work itself out.

I hope I'm right.

I would like to use my music to get girls. Does it work? I hear girls think that musicians are really neat and like to be around them and maybe kiss them. That would be cool.

Sure, but make sure that you look good in tight leather pants and can do really cool hair flips.

I didn't start playing 'til I was twenty; writing kicked in later that year. While I was a wirehead and tape recorder freak when I was a kid, I didn't get into recording my own music 'til I was almost 30. I learned recording in a commercial music program and I had some classes in the biz side where the teachers really tried to make sure folks knew the reality of the business.

And one reality that seemed pretty clear was that record contracts were then for young, pretty, maleable rockers and pop singers who would do what the lables and managers wanted.

The alternative was to put together a band and tour your ass off and have such economic clout that the rules dont' count... as much. Neither option seemed open to me.

So, my "dreams" were pretty slim.

Now, I find myself at the opposite end of things, and thinking more about whatever legacy that music represents. I have no kids (nor did I ever really want any for more than about 15 seconds at a time). My songs, such as they are, will be all that's left when I'm gone.

I'd just like to think that someone might strum one every now and then or DL one of my old recordings from somewhere (hopin' Archive.org is still going! ;) )

To that end, I'm thinking I should start promoting people covering my songs. I think I'll do a big contest with internet promotion and... :D

When I picked up my first electric guitar at age 14, I did it simply because I enjoyed making music. I played in some good bands and some awful bands, generally letting someone else do the writing while I taught myself how to play. Over time, I started working on my own material, and ultimately put together a band to play my songs. We did a demo, played a handful of shows, got signed to an overseas label, and recorded an album. Great! Then the label went under, a lot of the gigging opportunities dried up, and we ended up back at square one. But people finally heard the songs that I'd been working on for years, and now we're giving it all another shot. I think it's just the same desire any musician has - to be heard.

How do you do hair flips? Is that like doing a back flip? I hope not because my fat cousin tried to do a back flip once and landed straight down on his head which made him lose a big patch of skin and he cant grow hair there anymore, so I guess he can't do hair flips anymore which is cool because then I'll get to kiss all the girls once I get some tight leather pants. Do they come in size 48x26?

When it comes to work, dreaming does not realize the dream, apart from that, dreaming is a very nice supplement when I sleep.

.

Amen.

But if by dreams you mean real aspirations and goals...

I love taking a band that has talent. They need something though. Be it better writing, better arrangements, better attention to the individual and shared performance, and to help them with these shortcomings. I'd love someone who I've worked with to receive more than just a good review. Some $$$ on the backend for me too please.

I love music. Music is a dream. And the dream is now. I'm living the dream. Music is the life's blood that keeps me alive. And afaic, music holds the key to truth. One of these days I'm gonna ride a jam right out of this dimension.

:D_~

My current goal is too listen to this Charles Kynard tune another thousand times. I will take numerous riff breaks to process the information. :D_~

It would be nice to create music that causes the hairs on peoples necks to stand up,.

I allready accomplished that,... my mum had a nervous breakdown because she had to listen to my stuff when I was a kid,...

It would be nice to create music that causes the hairs on peoples necks to stand up, and that would stay listenable for years to come. Beyond that I have no huge ambitions...

I can do the first part -- I can call up a piercing, unnatural falsetto keening that will make the hair on DEAD PEOPLE stand on end.

It's the listenable part that so often escapes me...

:D
