Hi. Iwas in the market for a interface in the $600 range,i sold my emu. i found this

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Digi002R/

So the price drop a lot with the introduction of the 003. I dont really mind owning a 002 because i cant afford a 003 (duh :D) and i dont think it would make a lot of difference for me. My 2 questions?

How long do you think the 002 is going to be supported? I mean is it like the next pro tools wont work with this, or we can expect a couple more versions to work with it?

Is it possible to have a new family of mboxes anytime soon?

I know there is the m powered version, there is no m audio interface i like except the project mix, wich once again... i cant afford :D

Digidesign is not good about this. But if you're on a tight budget, why would you feel compelled to get the next version of ProTools? If what you can get now works now, why not continue to use that software until you can afford to upgrade the hardware?

You don't believe that old "It's based on software so it'll never go out of date" story do you? Companies like Digidesign make sure that it will. After all, they're really in the hardware business and need to keep their customers in new hardware by tempting them with new software that their old hardware isn't capable of running.

People have been doing a lot of good work with 002s for several years now. What doesn't it do now that you need? And why do you think you might need something in the near future that it doesn't do?

Thanks for your advices mike :)

Well i certainly would do what i need now, and i am pretty sure i would serve for years to come.

Just that i am of course considering more open systems (hardware and software from different vendors). I had an emu 1616M but i sold it because i upgraded my laptop and now laptops dont have pcmcia any more.

Just, it is cool to be updated. Just that, and since pro tools upgrades are regularly cheap compared to other software. And when digidesign software get discountinued it really drops in price.

regards
