Do you suppose there are people who enjoy hangovers?

I rarely overindulge alcohol anymore. It's one of those been there done that things. When I say rarely, I mean years go by in between nights when I have more than a couple beers.

I guess hangovers are just going to be a distant memory for me.

The last time I had a hangover, I was 12! Seriously! It was no fun then so I cannot imagine it being any fun now knowing I have to be fully functional the next day. I max out at three beers or two glasses of wine. Cannot handle the stuff beyond that. Not only that, I much prefer to be conscious then get bombed. :thu:

Don't like 'em, but every once in a while I slip up. :D

I don't drink that much that often, but if I do, I drink lots of water before going to bed and then again when getting up. This, and possibly an aspirin and some my high metabolism, seem to work at keeping hangovers away.

I assume that was a rhetorical question which is extra painful when filtered through a hangover. When I am not treating my body right it will punish me with things like hangovers even when I think I am doing the right thing , even a little drinking will foul up my energy levels. I guess I could shed a few unnecessary pounds and that would change.:thu:

I had a pretty bad hangover today. It took all day to recover. But it wasn't much of a headache as much as it was dizziness and absolutely no energy. My equilibrium was all {censored}ed up all day. Was it worth it? Up until I switched from vodka to whisky. :freak:

IMO, liquor will contribute to jacking up your insulin levels; at least that's my conclusion to personal experiences. I've pushed WAY back on drinking because of my family's history of diabetes. I don't have diabetes myself, but I have found that whenever I indulge moderately in a drinking spree; I feel weak and suffer dizziness heavily the next day or two. It's not worth feeling like crap the day after, so.... there's plenty of other entertainment to indulge in. I took a car load of teenagers to a ski resort on New Year's Eve.... we all had a blast without one drop of liquor.

When I used to drink more, I found that "cheap" liquor would cause a hangover far more quickly than an aged blend. Brandy and Schnapps are among my favorite drinks, but I always stayed away from brands like E & J, Schmirnoff, Hennessy, Masson and other cheap to moderately priced liquors. Some of the better blends are much harder to find, even in liquor stores, but they are well worth the expense and the search whenever I decide I want to enjoy a drink. ICE 101 on the Peppermint Schnapps, and St. Reme on the Brandy are the two tops for me. I can handle Hot Damn 100 Cinnamon Schnapps without much of a backlash, but... I much prefer the ICE 101. I drink my liquor smooth and straight out of the freezer without being iced down.

ani, those are HEAVILY sugared liqueurs... not like real liquor. those make my stomach ache just reading them. 80+ proof liquor doesnt have a whole lot of sugar, especially to something like beer, or those cordials you mention. a shot of liquor has @65 calories.

The calories in some common alcoholic drinks

1 standard bottle or can of beer (not strong beer) =150 calories

1 ounce of liquor (without mixer, which can add a lot of calories) += 65 calories

1 ounce of after dinner liqueurs = 188 calories

1 glass of red wine (125 ml) = 80 calories

1 glass of dry white wine (125 mls) = 75 calories

1 martini = 140 calories

1 cooler = 150 calories

1 margarita =168 calories

:p Alphajerk, the E & J, Schmirnoff and some of the others "do" contain a lot of sugar and are about the equivalent of swallowing a mouth full of flavored Karo syrup when trying to drink them; that's the MAIN reason I can't stand them. They will also give you a hangover more quickly than anything else.

The St. Reme I mentioned "IS" 80 proof and the ICE 101 is exactly what it's name says; 101 proof. The Hot Damn 100 is 100 proof. I don't like the watered down, sugar weighted (bloated) versions of anything whenever I drink. When I do drink, I drink my liquor straight (smooth). The ONLY liquor that I use a mixer with is grain alcohol, and that's what I use to mix into a hot gelatin drink for frigid winter days spent outdoors skiing or doing any other winter outdoor activities. Believe me, the thought of some hot steaming gelatin punch with the punch of grain DID cross my mind while out on the slopes, but not with teenagers.... Hot tea was good enough for me while the kids drank hot chocolate.

I'm NOT a featherweight drinker.... I don't like bloated drinks. I just know my limitations so not to allow my drinking to interfere with everyday life.

PS... I don't like beer and rarely do I ever drink wine or champaigne.... Brandy is my poison.;)

Drink several cups of water before you go to bed and your good

Its all about the water.

Yep. :thu:

Also, the good news (if there is any) about becoming an alcoholic is that you'll get far fewer hangovers, if any. :)

Would you guys quit talking so loud? (cat walks by on carpeted floor) Hey, quit stomping around over there!
;)

Ken's got it, most bad alcohol experiences come from dehydration.

:D

Yeah, it's all about dehydration. Doesn't take much to get rid of most of your hangover. Drink lots of water while drinking and before going to bed. Then when you get up, drink a lot more water.

We went to a Gram Rabbit gig in Echo Park, and they had the usual bit - the countdown, balloons, streamers, whatever. Fun gig, although Gram Rabbit played waaaaay too short of a set.

now I don't think there are anybody who loves having a hangover! I had one the day after my birthday (in Nov-in fact it was on Thanksgiving this year), and when I went out for New Years, I was too scared to get drunk b/c I was so sick that last time!

But it will happen again...I always swear I'd never drink again-while hugging a toilet and then I go and do it again later on. And tell me this, why does hang overs hurt more now that I am older??? {censored}, when I was younger, it never bothered me, but as I got older, it does!

You don't do it enough. What you need to do is drink and party all the time, and you'll be okay. Make a New Year's resolution to get {censored}-faced at least four times a week.

You'll be glad you give it up. I started smoking at age 15, over 30 years ago, and I smoked 2 packs a day for 6 years. I gave it up cold (the second time I decided to quit) whenever I learned that smoking was contributing to the sinus issues I was having; that was in 1981. The first time I quit was for a long enough time to discover that smoking was a main contributor to my sinus issues. Whenever I decided to quit the second time around, it was a forever deal.... and it wasn't such a hard feat to do.

Now that I'm nearing age 50, I can look at some of the people that continued to smoke routinely and they have aged dramatically with very PRONOUNCED wrinkles. I still do not have my first wrinkle.

Hint: if you feel the urge to smoke whenever you drink, lay off drinking for a while. I always smoked heavier whenever I was out with people drinking.
