Do you try to maintain a well balanced music diet? I guess I'm old fashioned, I still use my CD changers which hold 100 discs. I try to always keep some of the following in the changers:

newer electronica/experimental

blues, mostly older stuff

country, rockabilly and country-jazz, swing, boogie etc. mostly older

older rock, previously overlooked by me

soul/funk/hip hop

newer rock/experimental

older jazz to fill in the holes in my collection of the key players/composers

newer jazz/fusion/avant

African-anything good

Asian, generally Asian Underground (usually Indian), Bollywood

Hispanophone (i.e. Latin music)-this is where i'm most deficient in knowledge and interest, I should work on it

Assorted lesser known or forgotten genres i.e polka, exotica, soundtracks

I occassionally listen to classical, but its not my favorite. I grew up hearing it and have heard enough for this lifetime, so far.

i have a MCE which is pretty eclectic, along with my rack of CD's, only half of which has made it into the MCE... but just stuff i would actually listen to. polka isnt in my collection. i download a lot of music from bands that are unknown as well that i like who offer it for free... some of which they didnt tag it and now i have no idea who it is. im still trying to find the artist of this one song i love and want to buy their whole CD but have no idea where to find it. i have googled lyrics off it, possible song titles, made it my ringtone and played it for anyone who would listen and might know. i hate that.

i couldnt name the all genres i listen to...

I have always drove people that live with me nuts. Classical, punk, C & W, opera, pop, powerpop, 60's and 70's schlock rock, electronica, folk, jazz, singers and standards.

My desire for a particular genre is sometimes spontaneous, swapping out a CD while driving, Maria Callas for Death Cab. Then sometimes I will go on an extended kick. Miles for 3 months followed by Bill Evans for another 3...
