Apparently you can play any instrument at the, er, IMPA show?

Hehe, most, but not all. I can't play the trumpet, violin or flute :)

I can play guitar, but I'd never call myself a guitarist. I don't think I've heard you play guitar (aside from some of your recordings) but it's safe to assume you're a better guitar player than I am. I'm more of a rhythm guitarist, I can't solo on guitar worth crap.

I can play sax, used to play tenor in high school and currently own an alto, but it needs to be re-padded. Drums and percussion a little bit, if I took the time for formal lessons I think I'd be real good at it. Drummers tell me I have an excellent sense of groove, I just lack knowledge of all the rudiments (I've always wanted to play drums, it was my first choice of instrument but my parents forbade me from owning a kit in the house...guitar and piano lessons were perfectly fine with them though). A lot of my songs are built around the rhythm track.

It seems to me it's more easy to learn an instrument when the desire is there. It took me roughly 6 weeks to learn how to play bass in 1995 before I started to play out with it.

Uh, that's doubtful... :D

I only know our band's songs on guitar, and am not super technical and don't solo that much, and if I do, I've worked out the solo to the note. It's sort of weird because I really like my guitar playing, but I'm so not technical. Really simple stuff. I just try and play for the song and play as emotionally as possible.

That's the important stuff. It's all in the rhythm. How many songs have guitar solos anyway? I'm so much more interested in creating interesting rhythms, accompanying melodies, picked parts, atmospheres, etc. to support the song than solo.

... another "good rhythm guitar guy" here.

I was reading that and thinking "I could have easily written that".

With the difference that I became a good drummer once -same good sense of groove- and I do not own a sax.

Alright, FINE, you probably know more chords than I do! :p

and after a while, my hands start cramping (they don't cramp when I play bass though)...so it shows you how much guitar playing I actually do, lol.
