Members UstadKhanAli
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/874.html Anyone use this? Seems to have gotten some decent reviews. Also, if I have a VST-RTAS 2.1 wrapper from FXpansion, can I use just about any ol' VST plugin? Or only certain ones? Thanks. OS10.5.5/Pro Tools LE 7.4.2 There's a bunch of other stuff they have for free as well, and I was wondering if anyone uses them, and what they think about 'em. Thanks! http://www.homerecordingconnection.com/news.php?action=view_story&id=
Members Anderton
Kjaerhus makes good stuff, period. Cakewalk used their design for the VC-64 channel strip, which is a killer plug-in. Check your back issues of EQ, we've covered a couple of their products - the MPL in the March 08 issue, and the GCO-1 back in (IIRC) early 2005. Members Mats Nermark
Hi, I have downloaded all the free plug-ins and I must say that I like most of them. The delay is my #1 go to delay for all things guitar. The compressor is also on standby for quick fixes on many sources. Cheers, Mats N

Coming to Winter NAMM or Messe? Hi Criag, I Hope you got my mail regarding the new BT King web site with free backing tracks. You and all others are welcome to:http://nermark.articulateimages.com Regarding the show schedule next year, I'm aiming for NAMM and hopefully I will get the decision this coming week. In case I go I'm hoping for an introduction to the HC team at the show and have a talk with you. Very much hoping this will come true!! Members Magpel
I've got a bunch of their freebies in my folder. I may have even tried some. Now I am inspired to try again. I remember liking the delay and the chorus for effectiness. Ken, If you are looking for some cheap alternatives to Waves, do take a quick peek at the Stillwell Audio site. Two developers there--Stillwell and Schwa--and they're kind of part of the Reaper family. Stillwell's plugs are more standard, while Schwa's are...arcane. As per Reaper Culture values, the demos are unrestricted and there is a special Reaper-only license that is really cheap, but the VST versions are really reasonable as well. And the plugs are very good. In Schwa's case, the plugs are singular. www.stillwellaudio.com I have nothing to do with the company though I did, in the course of another thread, learn that Schwa is my neighbor and that we have some common friends. Go figger...
Members UstadKhanAli
Hey Magpel, thanks! I am getting the Waves RenMaxx bundle. In fact, I'm downloading it right now and anticipating that the iLok will come in today's mail so I can get that going. Now, I'm just looking for some different flavors since I think I want more options than just DigiRack III and Waves. The description of the Kjaerhus Classic EQ sounded really appealing to me, and I'm also going to try their delay and reverb. I'm also going to look into some Massey stuff. And now, I'll check out the Stillwell stuff. Thanks!

Members UstadKhanAli
The two Stillwell EQs, Vibe EQ and 1973, sound appealing, so I'll give them a try. Cool that you like 'em too. Having the FXPansion VST-RTAS wrapper opens up a lot of new possibilities. I should have labeled this thread "cool plug-ins that you love"!! Also check out the Stillwell Major Tom (DBX-style comp with loads of character) and Rocket (fast attack comp) -- I don't know where it stops, though -- I've bought them all! Members Will Chen
All the Kjaerhus free stuff is a great option for those on a budget. I still use their brick wall limiter on occasion just to catch peaks on an otherwise uncompressed track. The reverb is also good and certainly adds a different flavor than the convolution verbs I normally go to. I echo Craig that the Kjaerhus designed V-64 plug bundled with SONAR Producer is absolutely killer.
Members UstadKhanAli
I do need a good limiter for those moments in which I have to squash things, so I can check out the Kjaerhus limiter as well. I had my eye on the Massey thing because people are just frothing at the mouth over it.

I had my eye on the Massey thing because people are just frothing at the mouth over it. I like the freebies from Kjaahus as well (particularly the compressor and delay). For free/cheap limiters you may also want to consider Barricade and Barricade Pro from jeroenbreebaart.com. Barricade is a good sounding, easy to use limiter and is free. Barricade Pro sounds better (to my ears anyway) and is much more flexible. I believe it sells for 15 Euro and the demo version's only restrictions are that some of the metering functions are disabled.
Moderators Lee Knight Posted November 21, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 21, 2008 Are the Kjaerhus Classic plugins Mac too? Somehow I thought they were just PC. I've been using their Chorus, Flanger, Auto Filter and Delay for years. I will continue if they work on Mac as well.
Members tremolounge
I've been pleasantly surprised by Crysonic SpectraphyLE as a general-purpose limiter. Pretty transparent and CPU-light. And available as Mac AU/VST: http://www.crysonic.com/spectraphyle.html

Members UstadKhanAli
I believe their windows only. Seems so. When I unpack them, they appear as DLL files and will not install on the Mac (OS10.5.5). ~~~~~~~ I've been listening a lot to these plug-ins. So far, I really like the Massey Tapehead, Massey L2007 limiter, and the Stillwell Vibe EQ, and intend to buy the full versions of each very soon. Members Lee Flier
I'm a huge fan of Kjaerhus. All the freebies are good, but after using the freebies for awhile I purchased their Golden EQ, and it's hands down my favorite EQ plugin I've ever used. Not a resource hog, either. Members UstadKhanAli
I like the Massey De-Esser a lot too. I am not sure I am going to get it right now because the PT LE 7.4.2 DigiRack De-Esser and the Waves De-Esser are good. But I just purchased the Vibe EQ from Stillwell, a bargain at $39. Seems useful, and imparts a bit of color to the audio, so I can always use that. I like the Massey Tape Head, which seems to glue things together if you don't overdo it, and the Massey L2007 Limiter is really nice sounding!!! I'll purchase these soon, as they are extremely useful for my purposes.
Members Dean Roddey
The Kjaerhus Golden stuff is good. The GEQ7 and GCO-1 are both good and flexible plugs. The SONAR VC-64 is basically the golden channel with fewer exposed options, as mentioned. However, the developer seems to have tone missing. I don't know if he had life issues or that the company just never got going and he gave up on it, but he appears to just be taking orders and that's it. There's no responses from him on the support forum or anything in a long time. It's too bad, because he has some good stuff. The Ren stuff is great. You'll get lots of mileage out of those plugs. I could probably do an album just with those, assuming I was actually capable of doing an album. The mentioned Stillwell stuff is good also. I'm playing with the demo of the Rocket compressor and it seems awefully nice, particularly for that price.

The Vibe EQ from Stillwell sounds good, and I like the Ren stuff is good, utilitarian stuff that I'm sure you could do a whole album with...they have a nice de-esser also, and the EQs are super easy to use and have excellent features. Members Dean Roddey
Though they ain't cheap, you have to look at the URS stuff. Lots of good stuff there. URS has iLok based demos so you can demo them without commiting. The Channel Strip Pro provides a lot of stuff in a single plug. I have their SSL and Neve EQs which are nice, though I have the Waves SSL now as well. And lots of folks love their saturation plug. The Sonnox stuff is expensive but really good and different. And PSP has some great stuff. Lots of folks really love their Vintage Warmer.
