I'm intrigued by this, so much so that when I started my Ken Lee Photography blog last month, discussing this and linking to the Lytro and Raytrix was one of my first posts!!! And as I mention on my very short blog entry, I'm fascinated about future applications of this technology, where this will go, and whether it will ultimately be licensed. Members tedmich Posted December 18, 2011 Members Share Posted December 18, 2011 my bud, whose an optics/image analysis guru that worked at Los Alamos, thought it was pretty much a trick developed by a VERY self promotional scientist/engineer. least its more creative than derivative trading, which is where a HUGE percentage of tech scientists are going. Members UstadKhanAli Posted December 18, 2011 Members Share Posted December 18, 2011 If it's a trick, it's one the German company Raytrix have been rather keen on, seeing as they have been working on it for years with their light field and plenoptic cameras. You can probably tell from how I end my blog post that I'm anticipating very interesting changes in the future, and am fascinated by what those might be. Scientific research? 3D cinema? The possibilities with stop motion animation and pulling focus from different points would be amazing. There is a serious amount of headspinning rethinking required.
