Members UstadKhanAli
Hey peeps! I've got a frenetic instrumental rock track that could use some REAL congas to replace our looped congas. Do you have any recommendations? I don't need someone to be flashy, just in the pocket and groovy, and be relatively inexpensive. In case it matters, I already have drums (a full drum kit) on the track and am looking to augment this with congas, maybe some other hand percussion. Thanks!!!!! Moderators MrKnobs Posted February 8, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 8, 2012 If you're in LA, you might ring up Carmelo Torres. He's a cool guy, played on a Grammy winning album, and is reasonably priced. He worked on one of our albums when he was visiting here in Austin. Terry D. Members Anderton
And if that doesn't pan out, try GrooveZoo. It's been picking up speed lately, and the new software version is pretty cool.
Members techristian
I have a few things up at http://liveglobaljam.com Maybe you steal a few loops? The big guy on the Bata is the most experienced with AfroCuban music and all hand drums. Dan
Members UstadKhanAli
Thanks. Just to be clear, we have pretty good loops already. We're interested in having a live player record congas all the way through. Will check out the links. Thanks again!
Members Jorge7
Some of the Cuban conga players are absolutely fantastic musicians who are very versatile, can play any style of music and who know how to really give life to the rhythm section. These guys are great conga players: Pedro Martinez, Roman Diaz, Mauricio Herrera, Jhair Sala. They are all masters of a whole range of hand and stick percussion instruments including conga, bata, cajon, timbales, and are session musicians with rock solid timing and great taste. Of course they can play all the flashy stuff too, but more importantly, they know how to groove. You can't get better than any one of them. Although they are based in the NYC area, you can probably just send them a hard drive or a USB flash drive with the tracks on it and they will put the congas and whatever else you want on and send it back. What DAW is your song recorded in?
