You have windowsxp? Well then you're screwed.

JK, but you need a good program that can record single tracks like cooledit, protools, or I recommend sound forge. Maybe you can find just a free recorder on www.download.com.

I'm going to record today by recording to a video camera then recording the sound from the camera to my guitar later. I'll be recording to sonic foundry. I'll then upload it to charter, my isp.

So the easiest way would be to record to like a 4 track or camera then record it to the computer if you're not worried about sound quality.

I don't have XP, but I bet you most likely have a very simple program for recording individual sound files already on your computer. It is likely to be in your "Accessories" , under "Entertainment" (or possibly Multimedia). It is called "sound recorder". It will only record single track sounds, but that should suffice for what you want to do. I'm assuming that you just want to do a one-mic recording...otherwise you will need to go to a mixer and then into the "line in" or "mic in" on your computer.

After you record your file, you'll need to compress it into MP3 format or it will be too large for most people to want to download. You might have a media player that will do that, or you can search ZDNet or CNet for MP3 coverters.

Finally, you will need to find someone with a website that will host your file so the the rest of us can download it!

I write my own songs as well as play drums in a band, and I use Magix Recording Studio on windows XP to record them. I record drums on the first track, bass on the second track, guitars third and fourth, and finally keyboards and alternative percussion on a few more tracks. Then I have a great sounding demo to let my band listen to so they can learn the songs. Kind of what pete townshend did with The Who. All I needed for my home recording studio was a mixer so I could plug in four stereo mics coming from my drum set. The mixer goes into the mic input on my soundboard, and it records great with my Magix program.

Well, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for computer recording, but it'll do in a pinch....I've used it many times and have had great results importing the files into my multitracking software...for a simple single track recording it'll do and it don't cost nothin'
