Thoughts on Neil Peart

Well, He really didn't inspire me until his video came out. Sure, I thought he was killer, but by the same token, I had a hard time listening to RUSH because I thought the timing was too Rigid and had no "groove" to it (I'm from the Appice/Bonham/Paice/Powell School of drumming. My Timing is very good, but everything's got to a "flowing" feel to it, rather than a mechanical feel.) When Neil put out the Video and Test for Echo came out, THEN I was really impressed, because he had added the Groove to his playing....I was completely blown away by it, and then I started practicing my ass off, which was something I hadn't done in years....sure I put in practice every day, but instead of just practicing normally, I began doing things like spending an extra half hour on certain rudimetns, or the fact that I began spending an extra 2 hours a week just double kicking.

So yeah, he gave me a big kick in the ass. I haven't heard the new RUsh yet, but I'm going to have to get it just to see how he's sounding, because I loved the Interview MD did.

If you think hes groovin' on that album, check out "Counterparts" . IMO the grooves on that disk (no pun intended) are much deeper. :D:cool:
