Members braindonor35
Are ludwig's newer drums any good? I'm talking about the classic maple series. I've never seen them in a store but they are in a few of my drum catalogs. Anyone tired them?
Members yamaha man
if you want to play jazz (not much more) they are over priced no low end tone and the basic hardware is very un-durable(unless you upgrade for a big price difference!) sorry,go with yamaha they are reasonably priced and hold a GREAT deep, rich sound. Members Sir Enrico Buttcock
Dunno since I've never tired them but I think there are frighteningly few pro players out there playing their drums...is it just me or...wha?
Members kenm
I think there are a ton of players out there using ludwig drums, of course probably most of them are vintage. I've got a set of classic birch drums and think they are great. Ludwig stands are crappy, and I'm sorry I bought them. If you buy Ludwig, just get the drums, and buy some other brand of hardware. Members Dave Schenck
I own two Ludwig kits, a 93' and a 96'. They both sound great but I prefer the 96' sound. Frankly I don't know if I'd buy todays Ludwig classics, theres just something about a top of the line drum being 9 plies and 6mm thick that really bugs me. I mean Mapex is a relatively new company and theirb top end kit is 7 ply 5.1mm thick. Keller makes a shell that some companies use that is 5 ply 3.8mm thick, Ive heard Allegra drums with these shells and they sounded awesome. Of course hearing is believing, maybe if I heard one of these brand new Ludwigs I'd be floored.
Members Drumze
I have a new kit made in 2001 and they sound GREAT! In comparison to Yamaha, TAMA and Pearl I would have to say that the Ludwigs sound better and are priced waaay better than any other manufacturers. My 26" bass drum really honks.....and the 8x14 colliseum snare cuts like no tommorrow! Go for Ludwig, you won't be dissapointed

Do they still make the SLOTTED Colliseum too? That snare was hellasiously loud! I'm glad to hear that their new drums are still sounding great.
