Do you get on well with him? Believe me, its better to have a not so hot drummer and someone you can have a laugh with than someone who doesn't want to talk to you but can play like no one else. It doesn't sound like he's been playing all that long, he's gonna get better.

And to be fair, a lot of people drop sticks thats certainly no reason at all to think about getting rid of him. How would you feel if the rest of the band were thinking about getting rid of you for snapping a string?

These things happen, they're not the end of the world :D

Oh one last thing, have you tried talking to him about his drumming? You'd be surprised how well this works:) Ask him for some input or suggest some changes he could make to his parts.

Well thats my opinion, hope it turns out well :D

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the drumming, I'm just assuming that jesus, etc. doesn't think that it's up to scratch.

I think that he just needs a bit more confidence and to work with a metronome a little bit. But overall I'd say its not bad at all.

Is it a failry new band? How long have you been playing together?

I listened to the mp3's. In my opinion the drummer needs practice. I'd recommend him rehearsing with a click track for sure. Also, when you know as a drummer that you don't make good fills, don't make em too often when your on stage. At rehearsals it's ok, therefore it's a rehearsal. But if you constantly make fills that don't really go smoothly you ruin the groove. And the drummer needs all his concentration on keeping the beat alone, according to the mp3's.

So I'd recommend for the drummer:

- Rehearse with clicktrack for the steadiness of the beat

- Practice your rudiments for your fills

From what I make out of the recording, the music you guys play doesn't need a topdrummer with incredible technical skills. It needs a drummer who can play a solid beat and occasionally plays a fill here and there. With some practice, the drummer on this recording can be that drummer. I've heard much worse than this guy (assuming he's male). He can be better than he is now.

I agree that it is an important issue that the drummer you got now fits within the band personally. Do you get along with him? If not, try to find somebody else who does fit within the band personally and who plays better. If yes, give him a chance!

In any way, discuss these issues with the whole band. Give eachother feedback on how you play. You will be a better band and better musicians in the long run.

Good luck

Oh my GAWD!!!! He dropped a stick? Better fire his butt, what a looser!

His timing might be a tad shakey at times but I've seen a lot worse too. You want him to add more to your band? Add what? You want someone more technical and flashy? Want him to write songs?

Overall, he sounds okay...not great but competent enough.

If you want a drummer that doesn't drop sticks you might wanna invest in getting a drum machine. Even pros drop sticks.

Sounds like he just needs more practice - and definitely with a click. He doesn't seem to overplay or anything, and the overall sound is pretty good.

The last song (ftgtf.mp3) is kinda sloppy overall (everyone's time is off). So I'd say you guys don't need a new drummer, just more practice.

he's been player for 5 years. seems to improve very slowly....

i dont think he practices much.

as a group we've been playing together in different combos for 4 years. we basically learned our instruments together.

thanks for the advice, it all rings true.

oh yea, and my focus wasn't on the dropping his sticks thing, that was just another point. my point was that he doesnt seem to practice and his fills come in late and are too drummy/complicated for the music
