Members elmo17
so, I got a pair of tama mini tymps (mini timbales) and I love them. But they do not blend with my other toms. when I hit the timbales you know it, in a bad way. But if I play them by themselves they sound fine. I think this is because of the cheap ass stock head (single clear). I will change heads soon. What do you think would be a good head to help these blend a bit more. I was thinking of a double ply coated head, maybe a coated pinstrip. What are your thoughts?
Members drumbone
mini-timbales are not supposed to blend with a kit - they are a special effect type of drum I wish you luck
Members Old Steve
Agreed. Your toms have wood shells and two heads. The timbales have steel shells and one head. They're supposed to sound different.
Members Living Dead Drummer
I ues to have timbalies that I blended just fine...they were wood though...But here's what I suggest...use the same heads that are on your kit on the Timbalies...or thinker heads...then tune them down till it matches pitch. Sure, but then it's no longer a timbale. It's a concert tom.
Members MoosBros
I use 3 REMO Tombeks with my regular kit.... I wouldn't have bought them if they sounded like my other drums,,,,, I use them a pretty good bit,, usually for accents and special effects,,,,they have a very "earthy, world beat" tone, compared to the sound of my kit.... True, but still, he said he WANTS to blend him, and I would've made the same suggestion. Even if he's able to blend them to the degree he wants, you can still tell the difference between a wood and a metal shell, and it will retain it's "timbaleness" Myself, I would keep them sounding more like timbales.
