Members Burns
I don't know what sound I want from my hi hats. My current hats are ZBT + rock hats and I think are too heavy in that they sound like you are hitting a block of metal. When playing with my foot they don't make a nice sound either, more of a clang. I don't know if it's just my room or my ears, but playing syncopated hat stuff sounds bad. So the point is I think I may need new hats but have no idea what to get and wouldn't know a good hi hat sound even if I played all the ones in the shop. can you help? Members Mofishes
You can't go wrong with the Sabian AA Regular hats. They suit all types of music. IMO, don't buy specialty hats when you do decide to upgrade. Music styles, trends, and even personal taste changes with time. With all-round hats you've got all the bases covered. AA Fusion Hats are a bit heavier but very cool too.

Members Dash OH drummer
sabian makes great hi-hats, but I personally would go for Zildjian (just personal preference) I don't know what sound you are looking for exactly but keep in mind the ZBT's are pretty cheap so the sound won't be so great. Typically hi-hats fall in the range of 13" to 14". I really like the 14" Zildjian A Customs because they have a great shimmer to them and blend in really well. If you have some extra bucks I highly suggest trying to find a used pair of 14" Zildjian A custom mastersounds..just beautiful sounding hats. If you are getting a clangy sound, you might have your top hat on too tight. Loosen it up so it's not stiff on the rod (I don't know the name of it). I think a key thing about hi-hats is to keep them loose so they can move and sway when you hit them. This will make the hats ring and won't have it's sound muted right after you hit it. Just a thought

Check that first.
Members Chabo
For good all-around Zildjians, you should check out the New Beat and Mastersound models.
Members Nick
God, guys, I need a lot of help! You know the 'rod' that the hi-hats are on? Well mine is really bent, and I don't know how to get it straightened out. The problem with it being bent is that it causes the top hat to be crooked. So at one point there will be a 2 centimeters gap between the top and bottom hats, and at another point there will be 8 or 9 centimeters between them. Now obviously this is going to make my hi-hats sound like {censored}. It is also a bitch as far as 'airlock' or whatever you call it; the hi-hats get kind of stuck together when I play them with my foot. So how would be able to straighten out the 'rod' without damaging it? Help, please!!!!
