Members moyerbros
The best and easiest way I've seen to cut a hole is to use the Holz kits. They include plastic rings to finish the hole and make it almost idiot proof. They go for $10-$15. Well worth the money. They look good. Easy to use. And cheaper than replacing the head after you've messed up.

Members Rockdrumr1
Or you can just take your head to the local drum shop and they can cut one for you...much easier and they usually do it for free!
Members slambang
Remo makes a product called HOLZ. They act as a template / reinforcement ring which adheares to the inside of the head. I believe they come in 5" and 8" diameters. Place the ring on the inside of the head at the desired location, take an X-acto and cut around the circumfrence of the template and you're done. Whatever method you choose, make sure that the hole is reinforced in some way - I had a resonant head tear on me when the mic stand fell over into the drum. good luck. Members Steinerrr
Hmm, I wonder if I can get it here.. just checked a german online catalogue, but since "holz" just means wood in german, there were too many search results!
Members treb
The HOLZ are exellent and very easy to use I agree with the posters here.. also do like i did. Ibought an Aquarian regulator front bass head for my 22" kit...it came with the hole already there at the "4 o'clock" spot...sa-wheet
Members dopey220
What I did is put an empty coffee can on the burner on top of my stove, and once it was hot enough, I pressed the bottom of it onto my kick drum head. It worked very well. Eli
