That "clicky" sound (Korn, Soundgarden)

yeah, it's the bass. He has a very odd sounding bass setup. Very different and fitting for thier music. TO be honest, that click sound sucks. Especially when you go to mic up you kick for a gig. It sounds more like a midrange speaker distorting than anything musical.

Besides the danmar head, I know of a couple other ways to get that same type of sound. The first thing you could try is a quarter taped to the batter head, exactly where the beater strikes. I tried this out one day when I was pretty bored. Wasn't very pleasing to the ear for me....but that's just my opinion.

The other thing you could try is just to get a different beater. Every company offers at least a few similar beaters (felt, plastic, wood, etc)...you might want to try a wood beater if you're using felt. It will definitely add more emphasis to the attack of the bass drum.

I played with a band called Asherah a few times, what their drummer had was a piece of steel attatched to his batter head where the double beaters would contact the surface. It was so clicky, however, after a few songs he went right through this and had to use another drummers bass.
