Members curtiswyant
Hi, I was wondering how to get this "clicky" drum sound, which you can hear on most Korn songs and on the Soundgarden song "Spoonman." How?
Members Fafnir777
Are you talking about the kick drum? If so, use a hard mallet and a Danmar "kick disc" (About $5). Tim

Members drummer_jay
yeah, it's the bass. He has a very odd sounding bass setup. Very different and fitting for thier music. TO be honest, that click sound sucks. Especially when you go to mic up you kick for a gig. It sounds more like a midrange speaker distorting than anything musical. Members HulkBlood01
Besides the danmar head, I know of a couple other ways to get that same type of sound. The first thing you could try is a quarter taped to the batter head, exactly where the beater strikes. I tried this out one day when I was pretty bored. Wasn't very pleasing to the ear for me....but that's just my opinion. The other thing you could try is just to get a different beater. Every company offers at least a few similar beaters (felt, plastic, wood, etc)...you might want to try a wood beater if you're using felt. It will definitely add more emphasis to the attack of the bass drum.
Members schecter_elite
I used to play bass so what the above to say is right, take a bass, crank the mids and compress it then slap it with your thumb. Sounds like absolute crap by its self but when mixed with the rest of the music, the bass comes thru and so does that high end click.
Members dave_noosence
I played with a band called Asherah a few times, what their drummer had was a piece of steel attatched to his batter head where the double beaters would contact the surface. It was so clicky, however, after a few songs he went right through this and had to use another drummers bass.
