Members Tlaloc Posted August 16, 2003 Members Share Posted August 16, 2003 (I am a bass player) After being in and leaving 3 bands and having my 4th one right now, I can honestly say that in all my experiences, I find drummers to be better people than guitarist/lead singers. Now I am from a very pathetic town with very stupid people. So far, every single band leader (lead guitarist/lead singer or just lead singer) seemed to be rediculously delusional. They all keep thinking that they're either going to get signed and make it big in the music industry or commit suicide and/or go into abusing drugs and alcohol at age 25. ARE THEY {censored}ING RETARDED?? Yes. I cant stand it. And whenever this occurs, I'm always ending up getting along best with the drummers or being able to vent to THEM. As for my current 3 piece band, same damn situation. The interesting thing is that I'm kind of getting the idea that I should start playing bass and singing/songwriting. I could kinda sing (better than my current leadsinger/guitarist at least) and play bass. But I really suck at writing lyrics. I dunno what I should be doing. I know what you mean, guitarists I know are like that, except for like one, and he actually plays Satriani and Malmsteen... I think drummers are laid back, and just wanna jam most of the time. Now that I play drums, I feel alot more laid back and have a more realistic view on music, and how I'll never be rich and famous for my playing! Members baterista Posted August 17, 2003 Members Share Posted August 17, 2003 some guitarists and/or singers seem to think that they are the most important part of a band. i know a professional guitarist who says the most important member of a band is the bass player. ginger baker said "a band is only as good as its drummer." so i think these statements from two professionals show that it doesn't matter how hot the singer or guitarist is, if the rhythm section ain't happening, the band is {censored}. Well, you can have a one-man band, or you can have a band with no rhythm section. However, these are rare, and the guys in them are usually more skilled than anyone on this board ever will be. Something I find interesting is the attitudes you describe match a few drummers I know as well. The Weckl nuts Lyrics aren't so important as the message. If your message is important and you have conviction, that's far more important. unfortunately most vocalists and guitarists forget that they are VERY unlikely to be saying anything valid and important these days. When someone decides to play drums or bass, they probably already know that they aren't gonna be in the spotlight a whole lot.
