OK I'm getting ready to buy my brother some pedals! The kind he is currently using are Iron Cobras & they are completly worn out

I was looking into getting him some new pedals as a christmas present this year!

I need to know which would be the best for his style! The style of music he plays is the extremely fast doublebass type Metal ala Morbid Angel, Death, Cynic, to name a few!

The pedals Im looking at right now are

DW-9000

&

DW-5000

Which ones are better for this kinda music? I even thought about Getting him some Axis pedals but I'm more curious about these 2 types of pedals that DW makes right now cause these are the type of pedals the music store I plan on getting them from will let me make payments on!

I'm still not sure whether to get him 2 single pedals or just double pedals! He switches off from one to the other depending on shows 'n' {censored}!

Any opinions on this are greatly appreciated!

If DW has to be the choice, the 9000 is highley over priced IMO, the 5000 is fine.

AXIS is a very good pedal.

My pick would be the Pearl PowerShifter Eliminator pedal.

But most of these high end pedals are all very very good. Most of the time, its about preferance of the feel of one over the other. AXIS being direct drive is much different feel than a chain or strap, so that may be a consideration.

I'm amazed that he would have "worn out" an Iron Cobra. Tama makes those suckers pretty damn durable. Is it just a rebuild on things like hinges and bearings that it needs? Could be a FAR cheaper alternative to getting new pedals. Just a thought.

As far as "Which one is better" between the DW's...I don't think there is such a thing. The design of the 9000's is completely different than the 5000, and they have a different feel to them. The 9000 is a little smoother, but the design of the 5000's is much simpler.

They're both designed to be fast, responsive and durable. You wouldn't go wrong with either one, but you're not the one that will be using it. Go with him to the shop and find out which ones he likes better. I'd also find out which he'd prefer to have; 2 singles or a double.
