Members Medsy1
Hey all... Today i purchased a zildjian 16" A Custom projection crash. My thoughts.... didnt like it...!!!! Im surprised i didnt like it after all the praises the a customs get....but alas..... I Couldnt hear the bloody thing...!!!! My 18" zbt+ totally drowned it out.... ( im slowly upgrading 1 cymbal at a time...! ). The tone i thought was very high and shimmering.... it did have a warm feel and the overtones were good..... and i can say i didnt mind the tone too much..... but for some reason i had to swap it over or i wouldnt of been happy.... so.... I was going to get a 17" a custom and see if it was louder.... but when i heard the 16" Z custom... man that baby is loud...!!! I guess its not as warm as the a custom..... but playing rock/heavy rock.... i want a crash.... And being so thick i aint gonna crack it in a hurry..... Ill find out today how it sounds in a band situation.... and i guess i can always swap again.... Anyone wanna share their thoughts on z custom crashes...>???? Alot of people dont like em....... should i have gone up a size to the 17" a custom...or even an A series???.... instead of grabbing the z...???? Members rhino bucket
i'd take a 17" z custom medium over a 17" a custom projection every day of the week and twice on sunday. for some reason i just don't like the projection crashs. however i love the plain ole a custom crash!! and i like the z custom mediums in all sizes, the z custom rock crashs get clangy sounding in the larger sizes. Members snaresmacker
the Z Customs are total {censored}. They only sound good when you're playing with a loud, heavy rock band. but they sound like total crap in every other application imaginable. The A Customs are meant to blend with music (as a cymbal should), not "cut through the mix." The A Custom Projections are just a little thicker. i'm guessing you didn't like your 16" because that's just a real small size. go for like an 17", then you can pair it up with an 18" or 19". I use 19" and 17" A customs, and they are amazing. I play in a rather loud, melodic heavy rock emoish band. they sound good with that application, and also when i'm jamming and playing blues with some other friends of mine, as well as playing in church for the worship time. my thoughts
Members pjb
I have an 18" Z custom rock crash and I don't use it much because it doesn't mix with my other cymbals (a's & a customs). I will probably replace it with another 18" a rock crash. I don't use crashes smaller than 18" because the pitch is too high. If I ever break one of my crashes I will have a hard time replacing because my cymbals are perfectly matched and sound beautiful together. Nothing sounds worse than radically different cymbal tones IMO. Choosing cymbals is definitely an acquired skill. Christ knows how many {censored} cymbals i've bought over the years. Many expensive mistakes......

I use them in the studio all the time, and they sound fantastick. From what I have used in A Customs im not a big fan. I have an A Custom splash, and I realy love the tone, its one of my favs, but it just doesn't project, it can never be herd over anything else, and even in studio situations I have had problems with it in the mix. Members DarthWader
I don't know about the A Custom Projections or the Z Customs, but I will just say that I have a beautiful regular old 16" A Custom crash that rocks me. I have an 18" A Zildjian Medium crash, I'd like to try more sizes of the A Customs and see if I like them better. That 16" is beautiful, but I do end up using the A Zildjian more when the volume gets really high. Wade
Members Dash OH drummer
I dont really like Z's, they seem too hollow for me. A customs and A custom projections work really well for me
