just wondering if anyone else on here has tired one of the remo/dave weckl designed sound dampening system check out the pic of it if you don't know what it is . i bought this a few weeks back on ebay and wow i really love this thing . it's nice because you can dampen your snare quickly if you need to,and just spin it out of the way when you don't want the snare dampened. works out great for a quick switch from one style of music to another ...

I can understand though if you gotta go from rock to something like folk music though. I've guys just slap a wallet on the snare.

Or the "washcloth method" we recently learned about here ;):D

well i guess i can see the point of not wanting to dampen the sound , i guess maybe the re-phrased version may do it's actually called a snare gate , and this is what info. i found on them :

the Snare Gate uses a non-restrictive, free-floating, top-mounted plunger that opens on stick impact. A fully adjustable stroke control allows you to dial in the amount of desired decay. The devise adjusts to any style or make of hoop.

it's actually nice for using from a really rocked up song, and then dropping down to very slight snare hits where you wanna control any over-ring ... i have been playing for almost 26 years so i do take having all the drums tuned properly seriously . i just thought that this was a nice little secret weapon against some unwanted ring out on my birch snare is all . i don't use any type of muffling on my snare other than this gate though . i have back in the day used the "wash rag technique though"

i play alot of different stuff from rock - jazz so this worked well for me especially when practicing with a mix cd of different styles of music
