Members mikemccreadyspick
Hi all, I just brought a Yamaha Stage Custom the other week and was wandering whether its worth replacing all the skins as a lot of people tell me the skins which come with the kit aren`t very good. If i do buy new skins can somone recommend me a good set (its a 5 piece kit) should i replace the bass drum skin as well, will it make much of a difference?? Thanks
Members Snake
New drumheads can make a big difference (along with good tuning). But it's hard to help you decide which heads to buy without knowing the sounds you're trying to achieve. Do you want your toms to sing or be dead? Do you want your kick to thud or boom? Do you want your snare to be dry or have a little ring? A basic, common setup would probably be 1) snare - coated Remo Ambassador over Diplomat, 2) kick - Aquarian Super Kick II with stock reso and 3) toms Remo Pinstripes over Ambassadors. But those heads may not necessarily give you the sound you want. Ya dig?
Members seahawk
yes. without a doubt. replace your drumheads ASAP.......my suggestion?. your kick?. Aquarian Superkick ll and a regulator front bass head....... as for your toms and snare?. its all in your own personal taste. i prefer(and use live and in studio) Remo clear pinstripes on my Toms AND on my snare top and bottom. But i think you'll find that installing new heads on a good kit like yours you'll see how much "fatter" it will sound and subsequently be happier with your drumming.
