Danette ( Dave Conaways wife I presume) just sent me a couple pics of my kit. Looks good. Should be here the end of the week. I am pleased with every aspect of my experience with Conaway. Very nice, professional and most of all, patient. I asked so many questions to make sure I knew what I really wanted. Two thumbs up so far. Now just to see how they sound....

I bought a snare from him about a year to go and this kit matches it. The stands and snare in the pic was just set up fo the shot.

Thanks guys! Imagestation has been letting me down lately for sure.....

As far as cost, it was about 850 minus the snare. My snare was around 300 when I ordered it.

Donaho does good work I hear but dealing with Dave has been a great experience. Hard to overlook good customer relations.

Sizing is, 10x9, 12x10, 14x11, 16x16 and 22x18. Snare is 14x7 with nickle strainer, tube lugs and die cast hoops.

I mostly play rock and blues but I got the sizes I did because it would be a versatile kit for any style of music and easy set up in multiple configurations.

Suposed to be here soon. Can hardly wait!!!

I got the kit last week. I am in the process of writing a review of it . I am very happy overall. One of th best sounding kits I ever have played. Very nicly done indeed. Tunes up easily, sounds really good even withthe el cheapo heads. I just put an EMAD on the kick and it just pounds. I am gonna go G1/G2's on the toms once I where these out a bit. Very satisfied!!!!

Seems to be a love/hate thing with the finish. However, it is a custom kit and the finish is exactly the way I wanted it. It is a laquer stain, not a wrap, not paint, but a stain that allows you to see the grain of the wood. These are Maple drums, and I wanted people to see that.

I would like to see what you think is uneven about them myself??

Congrats. It's nice to find a company that realizes spending a grand or more is a big investment for some people. A couple of years ago, when I was in the market for a new kit, I was really interested in Ayotte. I went to their web site and started asking a boatload of questions about this and that, because $5K is nothing to sneeze at. I found them to be terse, flippant sometimes, and generally non-helpful. Their attitude seemed to be: "hey, we have a zillion pics on our website, why do you have to ask so many damn questions". Needless to say, I didn't buy an Ayotte kit.:D

Thanks dude, apreciate it!!

Burque, sorry about your experience with Ayotte. Nothing could be said bad about the service and patience Conaway has. I asked a million questions to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Never seem put out by it in the least. Good people down there in Georgia:)

Well said, the wood will absorb the stain to varying amounts due to the varying porosity of different areas of the grain,if it didn't and went on completely evenly the finish would look flat and dull, like staining a piece of mdf.As it is the wood of the drum shells is enhanced by having a translucent stain finish, not masked by having a solid colour coat.

If your getting drums that are made of nice timber then lets see it,dont hide it away.

I can see what groovy's saying about the finish - it looks kind of like the natural maple color is showing through in spots, not just the grain but color. But I think it's 1) just the picture (sometimes due to lighting and angles a still camera just doesn't capture things the way they really look) and 2) the fact that it's a light stain instead of a deep, dark stain (like Ponch's). Still, very nice kit - those are almost the exact sizes I would like to get someday.
