Members Atombo
Hi everyone, for a while now I have my own set of acoustic drums, but I'm not very happy with the sound. It's a standard rock kit made by 'Linko' which is probably some cheap Chinese brand. The tom heads are muffled with a piece of fabric / cloth under the heads. The snare is muffled by a thing on the inside. The original heads are still on it. Since I'm thinking of constructing a new electronic kit for at home by converting my acoustics into electronics with mesh heads and triggers, buying a new acoustic set is also an option. Another option is to experiment with some Remo Ambassadors heads, but then I'd might learn that the drums still sound bad, and I've thrown away the money spent on the ambassadors. So my question is, do you think investing money in new heads for my current acoustic kit will/can result in a reasonable to good sound (of course it depends on tuning, but say that I'd do that right) or would you advise me to just buy a new set? Thanks!Tom
Members Snake
I would definitely try new heads first. Stock heads never sound good on entry level kits, IMO. With good heads and tuning, even a cheap kit can sound decent as long as the bearing edges are in good shape and the shells are in round. A set of Ambassadors (or Emperors/Pinstripes if you want a more muffled sound) will probably help a lot.
