Getting a band logo onto the bass drum head

I've been trying to find a way to do this. In New York City, where my band plays, often clubs have house kits, which is sooo convenient in a city where nobody has a car and cabs are bloody expensive, so you can't always bring a bass drum.

Any suggestions on materials that one could put over a bass drum head that has the band logo on it? Something like mylar or plastic that could be silkscreened so that one could have a logo even w/ a house kit.

Gracias

I have not tried this but I have heard:

Kinkos makes a poster board type thickness item. You can have any artwork placed on this poster board for around $30-$40. You can have the posterboard cut to the diameter of the kick.

Then some velcro or even using the tuning lugs to keep the cover in place.

Like I said, I haven't actually gone to a Kinkos and looked into doing this but if it works it would be the cheapest way I have heard to do this.

Companies that professionally put logos on heads charge around $100 to $150 last time I checked. You certainly don't have time to change a bass drum head at these type of NYC gigs though. If you do look into this then let me know how it goes and if I ever get off my lazy butt and try it myself I'll post something.

yeah i was wondering the same thing too . i have the band logo on my touring kit ,but yes new york, and alot of the venues in canada as well prefer you using their house kit . i have played 5 shows in new york this year with my touring band " Tangerine " and had to use a house kit at every one of them .. The following idea may /or may not have the same effect but what about having a tapestry done instead ( something you could hang on the wall behind you while your band plays ) that way you wouldn't have to worry about having a cut-out in the peice you would place on the front of the kick to be accessable for the kick mic placement at different venues ? i have noticed at alot of the shows we play ( not just new york ) that alot of the sound guys have their own little set ways of micing the kick for the shows ( being that most of the sound guys in the venues in new york are the in-house guys so to speak .. ) this may make it easier on you and your band and i would think that you would be able to use something like this at pretty much all your shows ( being that it wouldn't really restrict a sound guy or anyone from access to the kit for minor adjustments when sound checking ,or adjustments during your set allowance time ) .. i only suggest this because a friend of mine also plays alot of different venues out of town ,and his band does this tapestry idea so the band name is seen regardless of using their own drumkit, or if they have to share off some other bands kit for the show, or even like in New york use the house kit shells for the show .. just figured this may be something for you to consider as well

let us know what you end up doing. i'd like to hear how it works out . i run into the same thing at alot of our out of town shows we play .

Some things just can't be done. If it's not your kit you can't exactly slap a sticker on there. And if you put something on there temporarily it might affect the sound of the drum. My band hauls around a big banner that we always hang from behind the drumset. Works great.

Indeed, go with the banner...or make your logo and put six to eight rubber bands around the perimiter. This way you could attach it to the lugs. Think about it...a free-floating logo, much better resonance!:o

Only drawback to that is it might get in the way of mic placement. In that case, resort to the banner idea!

I'm in multiple bands and this works great. Any sign shop should be able to cut you out a vinyl logo, if it's only a few colors, for dirt cheap. Get a piece of plastic, relatively sturdy (don't just get cheap corrugated plastic or anything), and drill a hole in each corner. Put the logo sticker on the plastic, then float it on the front of the kick drum using rubber bands or string. If you dye the rubber bands black, or use black string, and have black plastic, you won't even really notice what's going on from the audience's perspective.
