Members 6StringGod
I'm mainly a guitarist and know very little about drum sets. I want to buy a decent but fairly inexpensive drumset and learn how to play drums, but I also need it because I have a friend who is a drummer and we want to get a band going, but he doesn't have enough for set. So I am looking for some suggetions on some used sets. Thanks
Members Picker
I'm in a similar situation... Plus, I'm building a home studio and wanted to have my own set for that. I ended up with a Sonor Force series set that I got off Ebay for about $500 without cymbals. You also might look at Pearl Export or Tama Rockstar. I hear Mapex is good also.... Did you have a budget? Members Mike Yankee
Hi guys...I'm in the same boat. Did a lot of looking around, sites like this one, e-stores, etc. Finally picked a set of Pacific CX's with Zildjian's A pack of cymbals. I'm very happy with my choice. I spent a lot of time talking to the salesguy...his advice pretty much came down to this--there's a lot of quality drum sets out there in the upper-beginner/intermediate range--they all have plusses and negs, and it will likely come down to personal preference--but with any of the drum kits, you have the opportunity to shape the sound--heads, tuning, etc. He recommended I go with some quality cymbals off the bat--one because of what they offer, and two because if I stick with it, the "beginner" cymbals will become a source of frustration. FWIW, aside from the Pacifics, I also looked at the Ludwig Custom Accents, Yamahas, and Tamas. These are all quality kits. I'd plan on spending between $800-$1200 in this range... Members flatout01
Mike, This is exactly what I found after many hours on the web. However I'm hoping to find some CX's used, since most drums loose 40% of their value the moment they are out the door. How much did you spend on your set? Anyone selling CX's? Members zigzag778
You may want to check out Taye too. They are making some really nice kits with some options that are not traditionally seen on some other intro kits (larger bass, tom mounts, etc.). Best of Luck. zz
Members Mike Yankee
Flat, Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you--we've been off-line during a move. Anyway, I spent a total of about $1300, soup to nuts--but that included some beginners teaching stuff, metronome, stuff like that. For just the essentials, I think the price on the drums and hardware was ~$670, the cymbals were around $500.
Members FlashMemory
If you are looking for a new kit, the tama swingstar is a fanastic choice. you can get one off most online retailers for around $550 and it includes some mediocre cymbals.
