V-Drum/TD-8 Crosstalk

Just linked up with a guitarist to start a new band and we're rehearsing at his house where he's got a Roland V-Drum V-Stage kit with a TD-8 module - the same one as here:

V-Stage Kit

The problem I'm having - and I don't have much time to look through the manual so I'm asking here - is crosstalk between the hihat and crash cymbal. When I hit the hihat on the rim (not necessarily any harder than normal), I often here a crash cymbal sound in the background and I realized that it was the crash that was actually getting triggered for some reason. They are physically on different sections of the rack and not mounted too closely to each other so I'm wondering if there a setting I can fool around with on the module to get this fixed.

Anybody have experience with this that they can share?

Thanks!

That would be the "Crosstalk" adjustment. Roland has some of the worst instruction manuals with regard to their contents and index sections, don't they? Once you think you've found what you're looking for, you have to hunt backwards pages and pages to find out how to quite identify how to get to where the instructions start. How freakin' hard is it to include a "tree" that shows the button selection order? :mad: Fortunately "Crosstalk" is in the index, page 133. Toodling back 5 pages you can find where you're going for there, just in case you decide to poke through the instructions for further clarification.

Push "Setup"

- Select the trigger number (tap the crash and the number it is will be selected)

- Select the "ADVANCED" option along the bottom of the screen

- CROSSTALK is second from the bottom on the screen. Use the arrow buttons to navigate the cursor to it, then use the dial to adjust the parameter.

You can also adjust the sensitivity of the crash, which will help compensate further.

Here's Roland's recommended settings:

For TD-8

The settings in this order are: PD-8 Pad, CY-8 Pad and KD-8 Pad

Trigger Type = PD9, CY1, KD7

Sensitivity = 6,10, 7

Threshold = 3, 3, 3

Curve = Linear, Linear, Linear

Scan Time = 0.6, 2.0, 1.2

Retrigger Cancel = 3, 8, 2

Mask Time = 4, 8, 8

XTalk Cancel = 30, 30, 30

These parameters are available for all pads. The first setting is what Roland recommends for a PD-8 pad attached to a TD-8 module. The second parameter is for a CY-8 Pad attached to the TD-8 and the third is for a KD-8 Pad attached to the TD-8.

I got these straight from the Rolands Owner Manual. There are no suggestions in this manual for FD-8 Hi-Hat settings.

If something is falsely triggering, the first thing I would adjust is the threshold by increasing it on the pad that is falsely triggering. Up it by one until it stops. Usually that is all that needs to be done. You can also try decreasing the sensitivity or or a combination of threshold & sensitivity.

These settings are a good place to start but some fiddling and adjusting is usually required beyond that.

Plan to spend a good amount of time, fiddling with the settings. Try to keep the pads to where they trigger correctly at "normal" playing velocities and do not falsely trigger.
