Quick question - bass drum

I just tuned my drumset for the first time by myself and my bass drum still sounds boomy and hollow (put a little foam inside the shell. Have I not tightened the heads up enough? I've looked at several sites about tuning and it doesn't address this in detail, any help would be appreciated

BTW, I have both the heads on, not just one.

Thanks,

Stephen

Have you see the drum tuning bible?

Search for it here, or I think Snake has a link to it in his sig.

I used to use that head, I'd try something else. I have a piece of 2 or 3" foam about 70% around the inside of my bass. It's one of those foam mattresses you can buy at a camping store. You just have to cut it to fit. I have a very punchy bass using a PS3 head.

That's the exact (and I mean exact) set-up I use on my bass drum, and it is punchy.

Yes- Ditch That Remo CS Head please!. You'll save yourself and your audience the pain of listening to that awful drumhead. Get yourself an Evans EQ3,Remo Powerstroke 3, or my favorite Aquarian SuperKick 2. With a good tuning and some dampening you'll have a nice phat dry punch.

What he said.... Also, consider a Super Kick II on the batter side, and a Regulator for the resonant side. That's my next experiment....oh yeah...! :)
