Members gcdrummer
emad is a muffling/head system...heard nothing but good about it.
Members Puck
Emad is a single ply bass drum head that comes with 2 differnt sized foam rings that go on the out side of the head. So you basically have 3 sound options with them,Open, slightly muffled, and slightly more muffled. They are made so you can easily apply muffling without having to get inside the drum. They change out really fast. I used one on my 18" kick drum. It was a very sweet head for it. I have never used one on one of my bigger sized drums, but as gcdrummer said , " I have heard nothing but good"
Members Ignited
I had never heard one until a couple weeks ago when they had one rigged up on a kit at Guitar Center. It sounded good, kinda similar to the Aquarian Super Kick. I thought it sounded good, but I don't like the idea of the muffling being on the outside of the head. I'd rather use the Super Kick. Members Puck
Hey Ignited, Do you use a super Kick or Super Kick II? I haven't ever used one on one of my own kits and was wondering anyones thoughts on them. I guess the closest thing I have used to it would be an evans eq3 . Members Blastem
Hey Puck I use the Super Kick II on my kit. The super kick I will give you a little more resonation from the drum that is if you are running the drum wide open. It is also alittle higher in voice and has alot of snap. The super kick II is pretty much dead and a little lower and fat sounding then the super kick I. I prefer the super kick II playing live for sure. Members Blastem
To answer the original question from SlikRik. I would never let a head combination decide wheter to purchase a drumkit. You can always change heads. I am not to fond of Evans myself but some swear by them! The kit you are interested in sounds pretty cool. You have to justify to yourself if you want the shells not really the heads that come with it. I am always experimenting with differnt head combinations. I always seem to go back to where I started. A good kit (shells) will last you forever. As for Emads, I think they sound ok, but I haven't been knocked out by them, necessariliy. To date, the Superkick II is the best sounding kick batter head I've heard...but that's just my personal preference. Bottom line, if you want the kit, get it. If you don't like the kick head, it's relatively easy/cheap to change out.
Members rockbeat
Get the drums. Nevermind the heads. Debating on whether or not to buy the drums based on what heads are on the kit is like debating on whether or not to buy a car based on what kind of spark plugs it has in it. Members SlikRik
Blastem, Oldsteve, Rockbeat... you guys are misunderstanding my post. I"m not an idiot... Of course I wouldnt buy the kit b/c of the heads. My post doesn't imply that at all. I'd want the kit if it had diapers for heads... But I was also wondering what people here thought the Emad system...
Members rockbeat
I'm sorry, man. I really didn't mean to imply that you are an idiot. I'm sure you're not. I guess I was misled by the lines "I really want it...but I know I shouldn't get it...but I really want it." If you can afford it and you want it, why not get it? Again, I apologize. As for diapers for heads, if they've been heavily "used", I might take a pass on the kit. Wood is porous and absorbs smells. Anyway, in general, EMADs are pretty well regarded in general as a "top of the line" kick head. So just like any of the other heads in the same category, it'll come down to a personal preference issue. I can almost guarantee that you'll think the EMAD head sounds pretty good. What I can't guarantee is that it'll necessarily be your favorite. Bottom line, it's nothing to worry much about. If you buy the kit, leave the EMAD on there until you wear it out. Then, if you liked playing it buy another one. If you think you can find a better head, replace it with something else.
Members tdempsey
slikRick, just need to chime in that I don't think anyone that was trying to help implied that you're an "idiot". as a newbie drummer (real-life bass player), I now have good info on EMAD after lurking this thread. thanks, Blastem, Oldsteve, Rockbeat...
