Members valdiorn
I'm a big fan of Lamb of God and Chris Adler's drumming, and I'm wondering what he uses to produce one of his sounds. He has a really unique bell-like ride sound that I really like, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure what cymbal he uses to get that sound. Here's a short clip from Lamb of God's New American Gospel album, the song is "The Black Dahlia": http://network.is/valdemar/LoG-BlackDahlia.mp3 Is that a ride or some sort of a special bell or what?? Does anybody know for sure what he used to get that sound?? Edit: Here's a better clip for you: http://network.is/valdemar/LoG-SubtleArtsofMurder.mp3

Members Ignited
That definitely sounds like a small Zil Bel.
Members valdiorn
I know he has a couple of bells in his set (He uses Meinl cymbals btw.) ... are you sure it's a bell that he's using there and not the bell part of a ride?? Members tangman
The bell part of a ride would be a lot more reasonant and have a lot more decay so by the looks of it, its a bell effect cymbal
Members rockbeat
Yeah, he definantly uses an Istanbul bell cymbal. Not sure what size.

(there's no Istanbul dealer in my country ) Edit: Nevermind, found some samples...
Members Rumor
Check this out: http://www.meinlcymbals.com/artists_drummer/drummer_chris_adler.html That shows you exactly what cymbals he uses now. If you click on the cymbal name to the right of the kit layout, it'll take you to a sound sample page where you can hear the bells and other cymbals. I like his use of the bells and splash sounds as well as the filter chinas. I really like his drumming. Dustin
Members valdiorn
Yes, I've seen that page, but the bell samples on Meinl's site don't sound anything like his recorded sound :/

On the album, no doubt there's all kinds of studio "magic" happening...compression, reverb, all kinds of wacky eq-ing....that's why recorded drums sound very different than live drums without any processing. Throw in other factors like how the bell sounds mixed in with the rest of the mix, and the probability that each individual bell has a sightly different sound since they're hand made, and it's no wonder you can't get the exact same sound. Well now anyway. If you haven't, check out their Killadelphia DVD. Bells sound great on it and they're Meinl. Dustin
