Members SpiritOfSwine
Are there some good cheap electric kits out there that will play drums from hell? I'd love a real acoustic set but I need something quiter so I figured if I could get drums from hell on something that would be perfect. How much would this cost me? This from someone who can't play drums but I'd love to learn. I always had fun playing my old drummer's kit.
Members fastplant
It's gonna cost you. You're gonna need an elec. drum kit that has a midi out (most do). And a really high powered laptop (tons of RAM and a high processing speed). And of course a midi interface. It will work with a lower level laptop, but only for a short time, otherwise there will be latency issues. So if you plan to play live you'll need something pretty powerful. Members iwishyoulovedme
First off, do you own DFH? Is this why you want to control it, or is it because you've heard about them before? The sounds can be triggered with MIDI, so if the Electronic kit you purchase has MIDI out on the Module, then you're set. I don't know if DFH comes with a standalone app that lets you use the samples, so that might be a problem for you. I use - Cubase LEReason 3.0 ( which has Redrum, a midi triggerable drum machine, which you could load samples into)And This - http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-ROL-TD3SV.html A great electronic kit with a mesh snare. All you need is a throne, a pedal and stick and you're ready to go. The module that it comes with has decent sounds on it, so if you wanted to save the cash, you could just use the outs on it to send to your mixer or.. whatever. hope this helps. Members SpiritOfSwine
No I don't own Drums From Hell it's just the most realistic drum machine/sound I've heard. I hate the sound of electronic kits actaully, I just want something quiter. This is looking like it might be more than I could afford. Maybe I'll just get a cheap real set and play softer... You could get a real kit and trigger it.

A drum instructor I know teaches out of his appartment...ON HIS ACOUSTIC KIT. He simply uses the custom foam pads that fit within the rims and lay on the heads. He's got 'em for cymbals & his kick. Truth be known- he still had to stuff the kick with a comforter tho. ANYWAY, you'd just connect the trigger to the underside of the foam pad. http://www.jhs.co.uk/softapads/DT1FB.jpg
